Hi all

Wondering if there is anyone out there who could help me understand the results my partner got yesterday. At the moment we are both devastated with them so I'm hoping there is someone out there who can lift our spirits a little!

Background: I'm 30 and childless altho fell pregnant at 18. He is 40, has 2 children by a previous marriage, and had his vasectomy reversed in October 2009.

Ok...here they are...

Normal amount produced - 4ml
Count: 1x 10 (little 6)/ml
Motility: 50%
Morphology: Not enough sperm present to test.

Conclusion : Severe low sperm count.

Do you think there is any chance we will conceive naturally?

Thanks ladies x

As there is sperm there, there is always a chance, BUT, that is a very low count (normal count is 20x10(little 6)/ml or 20 million/ml, your hubby's result is 1 million/ml.
A fertility specialist would recommend ICSI, definitely.

BeenBeta · 21/05/2010 19:17

ICSI definitley but I suspect you may have to pay given your DH history. It depends on postcode.

jordanna79 · 21/05/2010 19:18

Thanks for your response...What is ICSI?

OK I've looked up ICSI.

It seems things are looking pretty grim

WE had 4 icsi treatments (DH similar issues to yours but not through vasectomy reversals) yes we had to pay.

we have beautiful twin daughters.

a nightmare going through icsi I won't pretend fertility treatment is easy.

but worth it in the end.

jordanna79 · 22/05/2010 09:28

That is wonderful news twinterror!

Was your DH's results very similar to mine? And what was the cost roughly of each round of ICSI? Do they not even offer one round for free on the NHS?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm still in shock and it'll be good if you could help me get my head around our options a little!

Hi Jordanna,

So sorry you are feeling so upset about your DH's results. My DH has a similar count (although we have a DD who is 5 and natural conception)and we need ICSI too, but it does mean that even with such a low count it can be successful.

It depends where you live, but some trusts offer one (or more cycles) on the NHS if you have no children living with you, others are moreheartless strict and won't allow free treatment if either of you already has a child.

As for the cost, it varies depending on where you get treatment but is around £4k. You should go onto Fertility Friends website which has loads more info on the treatments and clinics etc.

Good luck to you both,

Where I am no free cycles if one partner has children. Worth finding out your area as it does vary.
