I'm 36 and now on Cycle 18 TTC my first baby.

The first 6 months was just really 'lets just see what happens' which quickly moved on to 'lets make this happen' which is now at the desperate 'why isn't it happening' stage. I've been using the CBFM for 7 months however, we quickly realised (due to late ovulation) that we were not always doing it at the best times and some months we just didnt manage it at all due to bad timing/work pressures/family dramas etc!!!!

I have had HSG xray 10 years ago which showed all was well with tubes etc and have had Day 21 bloods done recently, the results of which were excellent according to my GP, my DH has children with a previous partner and we are now waiting for appt for fertility clinic and like everyone on here we are soooooooo desperate to have our baby and start our own family.

WHY isn't it happening for us???? It seems my friends only have to look at their DH's and they're preggers {envy]

AF due today - spotting already - which means I'll spend the next 5 hours googling anything and everything re TTC, spotting, AF symptons, pregnancy symptoms, infertility, fertility, conception, implantation blah blah

I drink green tea, I take multi vits, Ive cut right back on alcohol, my jobs is not too stressful, I'm not overweight so what is there I can do to make this happen??????

Hi,

Forget using the CB monitor; you're beyond that stage now anyway.

You need a referral to a gynae along with up to date test results for both of you (at least you now have a referral to a fertility clinic).

It is not at all about "doing it at the right/best times at all"; conception does not work like that. Also timing of intercourse in such a manner can actually do more harm than good to a relationship.

It may be that both of you are contributing equally to the subfertility problem or there may be a problem with either one of you; this is why it is important that both of you are tested in tandem in the early stages of investigation. Just because your H has had children previously does not automatically mean he is fertile now. It is no point in you solely having tests only to find out a year down the line that there are male factor problems.

Gynaes generally like to see women over the age of 35 who have been ttc for six months without success.

Any test or the result of done over six months ago should be discounted. You both need a fresh set of test results.

If you are spotting as well and this consistently happens this ought to be investigated further to establish the underlying cause.

BTW what was your Day 21 result?. A day 2 blood test showing what both your LH and FSH levels are like should have been done by now.

I would phone the fertility clinic and see if there are any cancellations. You may get seen quicker that way.

Me too.
generally takes about 1-2 sometimes 3 years for me though.

tis pants.

we went throught he same, "lets see what happens" then "lets make it happen" then "why the hell isnt this happening??"
I dont drink alcohol, take vits, on decaf everything, bloods all normal except progesterone which were low.(very dubious about this though)

sigh
you have my sympathies, fingers crossed you get some answers soon.

meatandtatty

If your progesterone was low the chances are that your LH and FSH were not right either.

They can look okay if only looked at separately; the thing with LH and FSH is that they have to be compared against one another. If that was not done the test result is meaningless.

I'm part of this unlucky gang

DH & I threw away the contraception in the Summer 2007 with no sign of a "happy accident" we started activley TTC #1 in Jan 2009.

Finally visited the Doc last December who took some blood tests from me (thyroid & progesterone) which were fine, DH also had tests and he's fine.
Doc then referred us on to a fertility specialist who lined me up for a few more tests including a HSG, but unbeknown to me, while I was sitting in his office I was actually pregnant However, I had an early MC in March
Spoke to the Doc not long afterwards and he suggested that there was no longer any need for us to have these tests as the pregnancy proved that we both worked and if there was still no joy, to go back to see him in a YEAR!!!

I'm 31 & DH is 37, so time isnt on our side, especially if we want a brood!!

kareninhampshire · 19/05/2010 17:56

Hi
I am 37, DH 32. DS is 3 yesr old. Took 2 years (with 2 m/c) before I fell with him. Have been trying since he was 6 months old, so 2 1/2 years, with 2 ectopics and a m/c to sow for my efforts. All hormone tests are good, but lap and dye showed open but damaged tubes. Am still trying but pretty despondent. Always wanted 4 kids!! Looking increasingly impossible now.

MunchMummy · 19/05/2010 18:02

Hi,
I took 2 years to conceive naturally the first time round, we lost it in an MMC early on. But then it was 2 months to DD1 and next time round only 1 month. I was 30ish at the time.

So, what I'm trying to say is that it turns out we had no physical problems with either of us and eventually my body worked out what to do.

Oh, but what a stressful 2 years. I can even remember crying at DH when going for a walk saying that 'even the cows are pregnant, its not fair'.

Hang on in there

kareninhampshire · 19/05/2010 18:23

Thanks, Munchmummy!
My body just can't figure out how! Seems like first time was just a lucky fluke. All my antenatal friends have two and the friend who had to have IVF for DS 1 and 2, now has 4, yes, 4 DS's! Just my body that is a very slow learner?

Hello peeps, sorry to hear of TTC despair, but here's good news: folks here are going to be very helpful and generally know more than GPs!

You know, Attila, you were right all along regarding problems with cycle: I picked up printouts from the surgery for my day 3 and 21 results and although the LH/FSH were in normal range LH was nearly twice FSH. And GP kept telling me it was ALL NORMAL... Plus she dismissed my low Pg on day 21 even though there was a note from lab saying 'flag up'

I've been referred to Gyn next month, but was so shocked by the poor level of care of NHS that I broke my piggy-bank and booked private Gyn to at least check out these results.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed, at least for Clomid multiplets!

Hi - I too being ttc#1 for more than a year, well 20months to be precise although had time before than when just not used contraception, am coming up to 35 and started fertility tests.

Understand nhs stretched, but 6 months down the line, only had general bloods, two lots of day 2 and day 21 bloods (low progesterone and high prolactin, but not high enough to treat at 843) and a transvaginal scan. 3mths between appointments and as yet no hsg or lap and dye tests mentioned. Dh had 2 SA as borderline numbers ... now back in wait to see consultant and no early appointments.

Any tips on how to move quicker in nhs, while not queue jumping appreciated - or more tests to ask for.

Eggsovereasy - have you had general blood test from gp for things such as thyroid etc and prolactin levels (forget the rest!) I also had to have an up to date smear, chlaymdia sweep and dh asked to have a SA to save time when first see consultant. Despite previous children, they will ask for recent, in last 6mths tests - so you could act on those whilst wait?
