Hi all, Am on cycle 3 of TTC and have worked out that I have a short luteal phase (?), as in I ovulate only a week before my period so not much chance of getting pregnant. I have read somewhere that Vitamin B6 can help with this. Has anyone tried this? Has it worked? I've also just read that full fat food in moderation is better than low fat - any views? Also I started running about 6 weeks ago and am concerned this may be doing more damage than good - any views on this?
Thanx all

Hi

I also have a short LP and I take vitamin B6 (100 mg/day) which I do think helps. Also unless you are on any prescribed medication I'd suggest trying Agnus Castus, which I think has been very helpful in regulating my cycle and getting the LP a bit longer.

Good luck

Hi
I also have a short luteal phase and used Vit B6 the first time I was TTC to make it longer. It did work and I got pregnant with my little boy. It is also good to take Magnesium. There is a supplement called Magnesium OK which is made by Wassen and it has 50mg of Vit B6 in plus Magnesium and also Folic Acid. I took that every day and then an extra 50mg of B6 after I had ovulated. I also took Maca and that helped too as it helps regulate your hormones. I would really recommend a book called The Fertility Diet by Sarah Dobbyn. It tells you how you can use foods and supplements to improve your fertility and specifically mentions lengthening your luteal phase. I have also heard Agnus Castus can help. I am TTC my second now and am having the same problem with my luteal phase so I am taking B6 etc again. Fingers crossed it will work! Good luck to you too! Hope you get your BFP xx

Can I add a question? My bottle of B6 says "10mg - MAXIMUM DAILY DOSE". Can you buy 100mg tablets then (and if so, where?)And how do you know they are safe?

Bensmum76 · 11/05/2010 19:51

Thats exactly what I was just wondering. Have just been to Boots and could only find 10mg tablets and they too said maximum daily dose 10mg. On all the fertility websites I'm reading that you need at 50-200mg a day!!! Am thinking I may start with three a day, morning, noon and night and see what happens this month.

You can certainly buy 100mg tablets from Holland & Barrett. Boots's low dose might be a consequence of this news story from years ago that I just found - looks as though there are some people who think 10mg/day is the safe limit, but this is most likely to be over-cautious because they don't want people taking stupid doses. I take 100mg each day and have experienced no problems at all.

I get a Vit b complex called 100 (or something like that - not at home at the mo to check). It includes 100mg of B6. i've been taking it for the last 3 months and it hasn't extended my LP at all. Also, becasue it is full off planty stuff it makes your wee bright green.

Will probably keep it going but must say haven't seen a difference (apart from the green wee).

The GP was ok with me taking 100mg of B6 but she couldn't say it would do anything to my Luteal Phase.

ps. It's from holland and Barratt.
