Bad Morphology

Dear all,

My husband's sperm results just came back and he's got bad morphology. Apparently everything else is ok. They would not give him exact results so all I know is that there are still healthy ones as well, just more bad ones than there should be. My results so far ok. GP suggests referal to a fertility clinic. She is not sure how much a referal to the urologist would help. I am 33, he is 43. Does anyone have a similar problem and do you know what kind of treatment they are likely to suggest? I am now waiting for my own appointment with the GP as apparently they can only refer me, not him, to the FC. I will then try and ask for the exact results as well. They must have been bad enough to warrant a referral to the FC, but she also said that our age was a factor.

Any eperience / advice? I'd like to know what to expect. Thanks!

points i read that too, when we saw the sperm guy at our local ivf clinic he told us that they are extremely strict on morphology. and they only check a very small number compared with the overall amount so not to take too much from 1 set of results. have as many tests at regular intervals as poss.

mount my dp sounds exactly like yours. never has a bath only showers, doesnt smoke, doesnt drink alot, the only thing we could do really was improve his diet and start him on vitamins.

Hi, I found this on one of the other threads - as of Dec 2009, the WHO guidelines are:

Volume: 1.5 ml or more
pH: 7.2 - 8.0
Total Motility: 40% or more
Progressive: 32% or more
Vitality(%live) 58% or more
Antisperm Antibodies IgA: less than 10
IgG: Less than 10
Count per ml: 15 million or more
Total Count in ejaculate: 39 million or more
Other Cells - Round cells: less than 5
Polymorphonuclear leucocytes: less than 1
Morphology: Kruger Strict Criteria: 4 or more
Teratozoospermia Index: 1.6 or less

They've lowered the count per ml, motility and morphology. DH had his test in Dec 09 but his lab was using the previous guidelines i think. According to this the only way he is low on now would be sperm vitality - strangely on the previous guideline vitality was >50%, now it's gone up to >58%. DH has 48% vitality.

Not sure if i understand the total count in ejaculate as if the minimum per ml is 15 million and minimum volume is 1.5ml then surely that would mean 15 x 1.5= 22.5 million?

mount my appt is next week. I got some of the pycnogenol today and have started DH on them
