GP has told me I need to have blood tests to check I'm ovulating and told me that they had to be done on the 30th of this month. My last bleed started on 16th of this month and lasted only a day.

Has the test been scheduled at the right time? Am confused.

I think your GP surely has it wrong. I don't know if all GPs are that clued up about this sort of thing. I remember asking for blood tests and the GP not ticking all the right boxes on the form so I did it myself later because she clearly hadn't a clue. She was also telling me it didn't matter what day of the month I had my fsh taken, which isn't true.

If your GP is requesting a progesterone test then I strongly think s/he is wrong in doing it so early. I'd ring up to talk it over and check if I were you and then decide for yourself.

I think I will tomorrow. I didn't request the blood the GP did. She made a point of counting on the calendar too, but am confused because paperwork says 21 day. Am confused.

Thanks for the support - I hate questionning the GP.

She has counted 14 days not 21! You need to book the test for the 7th May. Also day 21 is only really relevant if you have a 28day cycle. I was told by my doc to have it done 7 days before you next period is due which in my case was day 27 as I had a 34 day cycle.

What you also need is a Day 2 test; the day 21 test is only part of the story.

I would say have the d21 test done nearer the end of this month.

Day 2 is an important test to have done as it will compare the level of luteinising hormone (LH) against that of follicle stimulation hormone (FSH). Both LH and FSH are important as they kickstart the ovulation process; if this is awry then ovulation will be affected.

If your periods are irregular in nature then ovulation is less likely to be happening regularly.

Thanks all. My periods were 28 days on the button (with the very rare occurance of being a day out) until a few months ago. I've had an 18 day, 25 day and 26 day and went to the GP as we are trying(ish) for DC2 and I was concerned.

Will try and find the courage to call the GP tomorrow. I hate suggesting to people that they are wrong.

Right - spoke to nurse. All sorted. Test on day 21. Will ask about follow up tests (day two) when I see her.

Thanks all.

hi ladies

I would demand a scan to check 'structure' of your uterus too (my sister found out 2 years after ttc that she had a double uterus, all because GPs didnt bother checking!)

I had to plead with my GP to check, and it's something we forget about whilst focusing on hormones etc..although you can still conceive with structural problems, it's worth asking for an ultrasound (the stingy buggers dont mention it..but i've paid enough tax to demand all my internals are thoroughly examined!)

My uterus has been well examined in the course of three pregnancies, but thanks for the tip.
