I've posted this on the Assisted Conception thread but was wondering if anyone else can help - need an answer before the clinic shuts at 5!

Basic history: ttc for 4yrs, have had 3mc, one natural, one clomid and one iui.

Am now on second cycle of IUI but due to bank holiday, wasn't able to have baseline scan and therefore couldn't inject. This means I've had 5 days of 75mg clomid but nothing else.

Had a scan this morning showing only 1 x 18mm follicle.

Fertility nurse has said we can either go ahead with insem on Wed OR just stick with intercourse this cycle so as not to use up one of our IUI tries with the NHS.

What would you do??

My instinct is to stick with intercourse this time and 'save' my IUI for a cycle where there are more follicles and I've had all the treatment.

Gah!

Need to decide as have to do the hCG injection tonight if I do want to have the IUI.

Thanks in advance

PnM x

Hey PicknMix

Not followed any of your previous posts - but didn't want you to be unanswered!

Personally, based on what you have said, I'd leave this one to nature

Hope this isn't too late!

If you don't have much time (i.e. you might not have many fertile cycles left because you're older), but you have enough money to try some private treatment, then IUI.

If you don't have much money, and can't afford to keep going with IUI once you've used up your NHS cycles, but you're younger, then natural.

The follicle is a nice size, but like you say, just the one of them. Have they told you what the lining of your womb is like? Is it thickening up nicely? I'd be tempted to go natural this time so long as they will let you go for IUI next month without having to wait. Would they consider IUI with injectibles if you're only getting 1 follie with Clomid?

Sorry I logged in too late. I would've told you to go for it. I had one follicle after injectables and my husbands sperm count was very because we had sex at the wrong time following a mix-up over when we should do it. Even the nurses said it was unlikely to result in a BFP but it did. You only need one egg and one sperm! Good luck!

Thanks guys, good old Mumsnet to the rescue again!

I kinda thought that going au natrel this month would be the better option but just needed a bit of reasurance!

Apparently its fine to go for the full IUI next month so am not too worried as can wait another month (after 4yrs, whats one more month?!).

Thanks again and congrats Capricorn76, hope all goes smoothly for you!!

PnM just spotted this. Going au naturelle is a good idea [and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you won't need the IUI].

Sorry to hear of another MC . I really hope things work out soon. I've been wondering how you've been getting on, as I miss our old thread.

My DS was born 16 March btw - bit of a crazy birth but after IVF and a pretty easy pregnancy I'm just so glad to have him!

Caitni! So lovely to hear from you!!

Congrats on DS that's such lovely news - how come the birth was so crazy? Is all ok?

Name/weight - details please!!

How is being a mummy? Are you settling in to it ok?

I miss the old thread too

DS Richard Walter was 9lb 1oz - a lovely big baby boy . He's just gorgeous (and currently asleep on me in his close sling - the novelty of 2 handed typing!).

The birth was a little crazy as I was overdue and was induced at 42 weeks. Of course, me being me, I managed to experience one of the rare side effects of induction - hyperstimulation. So one pessary and I went from no contractions to contracting 6-7 times in 10 mins in half an hour . Twas crazy, like one long contraction - did it pretty much all on the hypnobirthing alone as couldn't even have gas & air until about 31/2 hours in and it made me vomit, so couldn't use it. I was strapped to the monitor, flat on my back, for the whole thing, as his heart rate was fluctuating a lot and when I tried to lie on my side they'd lose his heartrate - finally, after quite a lot of worrying low heart rates from him and about 7 hours of strenuous labour, I had a crash section. Luckily, he was fine (if a little covered in meconium!) when they whipped him out.

So just about the opposite of the hypno home water birth I'd planned . The good news is that he's absolutely worth it. I've recovered well from the section and am loving being his mum, in spite of some breastfeeding problems (my poor nipples are still sore!), the pain of the section (it was like being hit by a bus!), and the general sleep deprivation.

I'm really keeping everything crossed for you. I can't tell you how glad I am to have stumbled across this thread.

You're on FB aren't you? I'm friends with Bucky, MrsHappy, GG and Madoldbird. Sorry to be stalkerish but are your initials SSB? If so, I'd love to send a friend request (my initials are CC). It would be great to keep in touch properly.

In other news of our threadees, I'm hoping to see MrsHappy for lunch soon - now that our stream of visitors has tailed off and i can get out and about more. Digitalgirl is also pregnant again - she's due in November. I've not seen Ei about in a while, but again I think of her often and hope she gets (and stays) pregnant soon.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. It's the novelty of 2 handed typing. Lots of love and higs to you xxx

Wow, sounds like you really went through it with DSs birth, I'm pleased to hear he (and you) weren't too traumatised by such a dramatic entrance.

My sister had her baby girl, Lillie, 2 weeks ago - she too ended up having an emergency c-section after 3hrs of full on pushing, until they worked out Lillie's head was in no way coming out naturally!! Both are doing well now though, although poor old L has been diagnosed with clicky hips so is strapped into a brace 24hrs a day for 6wks.

Life is pretty crazy for us at the mo - we've had a string of very bad luck recently but have just adopted a labrador rescue so things are starting to look up again now!

My initials are indeed SSB, woould be great to hear from you on FB and keep in contact.

Take care and give that baby boy a big hig from his cyber auntie! xx
