Has anyone had IVF after trying for a relatively short time?

First of all, I am sorry if this thread title is offensive to anyone TTC no.1. We are ttc no. 3 (same DH as for first 2 ) and nothing has happened for 10 cycles despite metformin, clomid and trigger shots. The only positive thing clomid has done is to shorten the length of my cycles, I always ovulated naurally anyway. So, don't want to stay on clomid for 6 months.

I have a history of PCOS, when TTC 1 and 2 but this time around my ovaries looked totally normal. I was only put on metformin and clomid because met worked last time.

Anyway, for those with IVF experience- had anyone been trying for a relatively short time before getting started? I'm really fed up with faffing around (have no patience) and just want to get on with something more invasive.

Hi - 10 cycles isn't that long, I'd wait a bit longer - depends how old you are though?

I'd be a bit daft to fork out £thousands when you might conceive naturally given a bit more time.

Assuming no significant fertility probs, there's a 15 % chance of conception each cycle for the average 35+ woman, with IVF, the odds are about 25% for the same age group in each cycle.

I'd wait, and I'd try to learn patience - I've had to, although it's hard, I know!

It took me 3 1/2 years to conceive no1 naturally (had a lap and dye, that seemed to help) and I'm on cycle 8 this time round - but after getting a bit het up, I'm trying to concentrate on other things for a while.

Still TTC, but not obsessing!

I'm sure you'll get there soon.

You sound very patient and I really hope that you are rewarded with a BFP mch quicker 2nd time around.

It's funny you say about the lap and dye working. I got my BFP with no.2 on the cycle I had a lap and dye (HyCosy) too. I'm thinking of asking for another lol though so far nothing that I've done for conceiving before has worked this time. I am just sick of taking met, which means I can never touch a drop of alcohol, cutting out caffeine, taking clomid but all for nothing. And I ovulate anyway. It doesn't make sense to me to do endless months of clomid. I would rather just go for something which offers a higher chance of success, I am just 34 btw.

Does this make sense to anyone else. Just feeling really fed up at the moment

Hi haribo, I know how you are feeling, it just gets so desperate after a while and you don't know how much longer you are going to have to wait. DS took a year to conceive, that time i had did try clomid for a couple of months as I had long cycles but it didn't do much as I was already ovulating anyway. I also had a lap and dye and managed to conceive a couple of months after that!

We have now been trying for nearly 10 months for No 2 so far nothing, I am 34 too, I have got myself a referral now to see a specialist. I think he will just put me on clomid but I do ovulate every month anyway so not sure what good that is going to do me anyway but wondering if I am able to get a lap and dye again to increase my chances too.

I have also wondered about doing IVF as well, my husband had a sperm analysis and it came back below average though it wasn't disastrous, after all we have managed to conceive already. However, IVF has its own challenges and emotional trauma and not a guaranteed path - though for women in our position the odds are in our favour but still it's only around 25% chance of success on average each cycle.
