can anyone tell me where is the best placy to buy a basal body thermometer. i looked on ebay and the like but there are so many to choose from its hard to know which one is the best. i read on one site to go with one that measures to 1 decimal place then on another site it said 2 and not to touch a thermometer that only does to 1 decimal place. im comfused. do i need to spend alot of money on one or will a cheap one do. and also when i use it when will i know for sure that my temp has increased. will it be a big jump??

I got the Boots kit. I suspect £12 is a bit of a rip off, but it does give you instructions, save you buying graph paper and measure to 2 decimal places.

Bought it in a normal, fairly small local high st Boots, but you can get it via their website too.

This one is pretty much identical to the Boots one though and only £5.25.

Dammit!

Buggering bugger. Ignore above...

And here's one via Amazon for £4.90 and free delivery.

Really, they all look pretty much identical to my Boots one. I think it's the two decimal places that's important.

Hi. 1dp may be enough. It was fine for me -depends on your body. You need to try it for a couple of months and learn your own pattern. I used a normal thermometer to help me conceive my first child but you have to be really disciplined about it - no drinking alcohol, take it at same time of day etc. For my second child I decided to try using a specialised bbt to help me conceive and got a 2dp one really cheap (new) off ebay. But with the demands of one child and a busy job I got fed up having to be so regular about the procedure! So in the end I bought a load of ovulation tests off ebay instead - again really cheap - and found that much easier! I know I haven't really answered your question but this worked better for me so maybe it could for you too. Good luck!

Hi again. Just read some of above posts - probably should have done that first! You def don't need to bother buying kits and graph paper. If you go down the bbt route get the cheapest one available - as long as you always use the same thermometer it really doesn't matter - and I just searched the internet for a short time to find ready downloadable free charts. However, having tried both options I still maintain that ovulation tests are easier. Have fun!

Yes, I think it's clear that Boots have managed to extract about £8 from me for some lined paper I could have downloaded online, or better still used one of those (free) sites that tracks it all for you.

taytotato, I've just started using www.fertilityfriend.com which allows you to store your charting info online & tracks everything for you.

Lots of info too on how to chart/signs to look out for etc.
