Looking for egg donor

Hello! I am new to Mumsnet and am placing my faith in this wonderfully active community.

I have been undergoing IVF treatment since 2007 with no positive outcome. The clinic I am registered with in Wimbledon have now told me I am going through early menopause and should seek an egg donor. My sister has offered, but due to the upper 36 year age limit, i can't take up her kind offer - she's 37 in 10 days time. very very [sad}

I want to find out more about using an egg donor, and also to find out how to connect with an angel in the south of england (berks/bucks/hants/surrey) who could help me make my dreams come true.

Any links, thoughts or offers would be gratefully received.

Bumping thread up for you. Sorry, Fiona, my eggs are past their sell-by date too but didn't want you to go unanswered. Hope someone can help you out.

fionab41 I'm sorry I can't help you but I can suggest a couple of ideas.

One is to approach the main clinics such as Care Fertility, which has a few branches and the London ones like the Lister, Ealing and Guys and see what the situation is there.

You can also take a look on the Assisted Conception thread here and ask for ideas.

I am sure you know, there is an increased cost for donor eggs and there is a wait but there are clinics that can arrange the donor egg thing for you rather than you finding your own donor.

You could also continue to look for your own donor as well and see what comes up first. I am undergoing treatment with Care Fertility which is Midlands based but accessable from the South and very good.

The other suggestion is to write a short article about your need and see if you can have this placed free of charge in any local editions of the NCT (National Childbirth Trust) newsletters (these are local and so cover a town by town basis. You would need to tell your tale and provide a contact email or mobile or whatever, but could do this annonymously, at least initially. If you get in touch with a few local branches of the NCT you may find they are willing to pass the story on. I have read an article like this in an NCT local newsletter. I am a mum to a 5 year old. I know it is a bit hard approaching a newsletter for mums but you may find some interest, although I would still feel that the clinic route was the best.

Finding your own donor is always an option, it is a shame that the cliinc will not allow your sis to donate, did you check as you are related could they allow it?

All the best.

Here is the link to the assisted conception thread and if you read back a few posts you will see some of us are undergoing treatment with donor eggs and some of us are considering it so there is some debate on it. This may be helpful to you but you will need to read back a bit to get the idea of who is who and what is what! Also, if you do go for donor eggs in the UK you just need to be a bit careful how much oersobal information you post as most donor egg treatment is confidential. Feel free to ask me questions but obviously due to the confidential nature I cannot tell you too much personal information.

All the best.

Sorry, oersobal information, should be personal information.

You might also want to consider going abroad - where there are no waiting lists and much more availability due to different laws.

However donors overseas are always anonymous so you would never be able to trace your egg donor which may/or may not suit you

freelancescientist · 02/04/2010 19:31

It is also worth asking at other clinics if your sister can donate for you. My clinic would allow her to go ahead but we do NHS only.

TheArsenicCupCake · 02/04/2010 19:36

My eggs are a rather dodgey lot DNA wise.. So wouldn't be able to help you.. But if they were good I'd do it for you ..

have hope someone will help out.

Thanks everyone for your kind posts! I appreciate the comments & support. At the moment, going abroad isn't an option for me .... so will keep looking for that angel :0)

Did you find someone?

www.fertilityfriends.co.uk has a brilliant message board, with loads of girls in the same boat as you.
Before you head off in search of donor eggs, it would be worth getting a second opinion from a clinic specialising in treating older women or women who respond poorly to stimulation. The Lister is the main one for perimenopausal/older girls and has a phenomenal success rate - it might be worth a chat with them.

The Bridge clinic does a lot with egg and embryo donation, both in the UK and overseas. Abroad it's cheaper, and there's no waiting list.

I really hope you get something sorted, but before you give up with your own eggs, or even those of your sister, it'd be worth getting a second opinion.
