You're not the only one no! I do (or did, still waiting for periods to return after birth of ds2 8 months ago). So, been a while but as far as I remember it simply hurts. Quite a bit, usually just on one side, worse on moving (like sitting down) like a stabbing pain). Gets worse over a day or so then calms down

mumsie123 · 01/04/2010 21:52

Yeah i have that today, also feel sooo tired as well. feel's never ending after just having a period as well.

I have the pain on my right always get that its so painful i usualy take paracetamal for it.

I get this, it's called mittleschmerz and it's the egg bursting through into the fallopian tubes that causes the pain.

Sometimes it just feels like a muscle strain in my lower abdomen, sometimes it feels like I'm being poked up the bum.

Lionstar · 01/04/2010 21:55

I always describe it as having a tummy full of rocks

SlinkyGoober · 01/04/2010 22:00

A stabbing pain right up your arse.

ShowOfHands · 01/04/2010 22:04

Low down ache on one side accompanied by a red hot poker up the bottom/constipated type feeling. Always had it, v sore.

dearprudence · 01/04/2010 22:05

Yes, I get this, but only since having DS (now 7). Can be quite a bad pain, either side or both. Can feel a bit like a really bad trapped wind pain. Lasts a day or two.

Not up the arse though.

SlummyMummyAndProud · 01/04/2010 22:37

I had the same sory of pain bout 4wks ago and thought 'oh that'll just be ovulation pain.'

Turned out to be implantation pain.

mumsie123 · 02/04/2010 18:22

It's horrible, literally a pain in the arse lol

I get about 4 days of cramping on the right hand side, stomach cramps, nausea and also the pain in the bum thing (I did wonder about that glad it's not just me!) for about 4 days around ovulation. I actually find these worse then during my period when I don't really cramp that much at all.

When I was younger I would also get spotting and ended up having loads of horrid tests done because nobody at the obgyn made the connection with ovulation and were convinced that I was either nuts or had some terrible infection. It's was only when I had my mirena taken out a few months ago and the cramps started again that I realised after doing reading on ovulation for ttc what it was. A bit of a relief I can tell you!

mtor · 05/04/2010 00:04

Yes I get the pain at the sides (but in my case it alternates pretty much every month between the right and the left hand sides). I have only had it since my periods came back after my baby was born (just over a year ago).

gina84uk · 05/04/2010 16:08

yip i get it to,i have had irregular periods
and i was wanting to try for baby n.o2 so i got a cbfm and when i got my 2 days of ov i had very sore pain i have had the pain before but never thought anything of it untill last week so yes i get it too lol
not very nice tho

EggcentricaGallumbits · 05/04/2010 16:12

all of the above. followed by crippling period pain.

according to last dr i spoke to about it it's normal for someone to be in pain for 2 out of every 4 weeks and to take painkillers pretty much every one of those days

Amarilis · 06/04/2010 10:13

Hello

I used to get this, really badly and I had demanded a laparoscopy.. I found out that I had fibroids, attached to an ovary which was causing the killer ovulation pain..

Fibroids are really common, worth checking out..

I concieved first time of trying after my op which removed them :-)

Mimi1977 · 06/04/2010 19:22

I get it too - usually like a really bad stitch in one side or a stabbing pain. Don't get every month but can be useful when knowing when I've ovulated.

mumsie123 · 07/04/2010 11:00

I mostly get it every month, stich like pain to the right, i never actually reaslised it was ovulation and i dontthink i started feeling it till after my 2DC.

xx

yup, Mittelschmerz - but, like Amarilis said, fibroids (or endometriosis) can make it more painful, so worth asking GP for a gynae referral for an ultrasound if it's really bad or got worse recently.
I have PCOS and very rarely ovulate - my mittelschmerz on the right side when I do was so bad that I ended up having a (perfectly healthy) appendix removed when I was 17. I'm still rather about that, because I think if they'd scanned me I might have avoided surgery - but the attitude then seemed to be "oh well if pain there is not ectopic pg then it's probably appendicitis, best whip it out".
As other posters have said, mittelschmerz can be useful when TTCing, especially taken in conjunction with other cycle monitoring like temping and CM...
