OV'ing very late in cycle - is this normal/right?

DH and I are currently on month 7 of TTC DC1

Since we started trying, I've marked the dates I get EWCM and when AF arrives, and have just gone back and had a good look at this.

My typical cycle length is 27-29 days, but my fertile days (or at least the days when I get EWCM) are days 17,18,19,20, which seems really late.

Could this be correct, or could we be SWI too late in the cycle, hence our lack of success to date?

I haven't gone down the temping/prediction kit route yet because I'm disorganised and likely to forget most mornings hoping we can get lucky with the good old 'lots of sex' technique, but I suppose that would have to be the next step...

Spare if you are over 35 and have been trying for 7 months I would be tempted to blub go to the doctors. They will be able to arrange tests. I went and I have been trying for number 2 for less than a year and told a white lie that I had been trying much longer and have been referred for day 21 tests.

You might just have a short leutal phase.

I have no idea what is good or not good but wanted to say I also ovulate late in my cycle, around day 20-21 of 27 day cycle. I have one DD and did get pregnant recently but I mc'd.

I agree with Loujalou though, go and see a doctor about it.

Thanks ladies. I'm 29, so I didn't think the dr would give me much time until we'd been trying for a year (and they know when I last went for a pill prescription, so I don't think I could convince them we've been trying for longer than we have)
DH is 40 though. Would that have much bearing on it?

It doesn't matter the number of the day you ovulate, but the length of your luteal phase iyswim. Between about 10 and 16 days is normal. Lower than this is considered short, though not necessarily a bar to conception. A friend has a lp of 6/7 days for example and has conceived easily.

From the sounds of it, your luteal phase is probably around 10 days, which is fine. If I were you, I'd temp for a couple of months and see if you can confirm your luteal phase length. If it does come up short in your opinion, I'd see the GP. If it did turn out to be short then there are things they can do to help.

It took me 14 months to conceive with no fertility issues and we were 24 and 25 respectively. The GP I saw was very reassuring that this is utterly normal when the chances of conception are only around 25% at best.
