Been ttc for 9 months now, I know in the scheme of things, this isn't long, but it's getting frustrating now.
For the past 3 months, I've had symptoms (sore boobs, nausea, tiredness, extra weeing) but has come to nothing. Had a suspected MC 10 months ago now.

So please give me some tips - I should know what I'm doing by now, but nothings worked.[grumpy old cow emoticon]

Go for some blood tests to check everything is ok? We've been ttc for 11 months with 1 mc in that time. Went to start tests this week, just to try and get a sense of control and check if my eggs are too geriatric to put in an appearance.

What have you tried? Apart from the obvious act of course!

Have you come off the pill? Sometimes it can take ages to get the cycles back to normal - if you don't get pregnant straight away. How regular are your periods?

I charted my temperature and did the deed every other night in the week I thought I was ovulating. I had read every other night was best as gives the man a chance to "recover" properly. I also elevated my hips for half an hour afterwards!

But I'm in my late 20s so may have found it easier anyway.

Hi, bumping this for you & hopefully one of the TTC knowledgable people will see it.

Let me first say I've never been pregnant and we're just starting to TTC so I can't vouch for any of these things yet...

I assume if you've been TTC for 9months that you're familiar with temp charting and checking your CM to find out when you're fertile? If not, get thee over to Fertility Friend and learn!
Apparently lots of people struggle to concieve because they think that women ovulate on cycle day 14 and that may well not be the case. I think I read that it has been known to happen as early as day 8 and as late as 18 but I'm sure some MNetters can testify to an even bigger range. Since the egg only lives for about a day after ovulation, you need to get the timing right.

In my googling, I came across this quite annoying woman, who seems to have a lot of interesting tips on maximising fertility. I haven't brought her book but I did sign up to a free 7 days/7 tips email thing from her and these were her 7 tips:

-Have frequent sex all through your cycle (and lots in the fertile bit), rather than just saving it all for the fertile window, as you want to have "fresh" sperm more maximum motility
-Don't use lubes like KJ as the petroleum base hinders the sperm in some way. Use PreSeed (buy online) as it actually helps give the sperm a nourishing environment to swim/survive in
-Drink lots of water as it increases the volume of cervical fluid produced
-Take 500mg of Vit C per day (but not more) as apparently this helps improve your CM in some way
-Coffee (or caffiene, I can't remember which ) intake is a significant factor in hindering conception. If you can possibly cut it out, do.
-Avoid tuna. It's more well known that you should avoid tuna when pregnant (mercury) but not so well known that it can reduce conception chances
-The good old "relax" recommendation. Although apparently laughter has the same effect on your body, so she recommends watching a comedy episode or somesuch in the evening to get 15 mins of giggles.

Most of those seem fairly easy and harmless so I figured I'd try and give it all a bit of a go.

However, if you're concerned/have irregular periods etc you'd probably be best seeing your GP to get blood tests etc to confirm that you're ovulating. In any case, if I was you I would definitely be seeing my GP in 2-3 months if you've still not had any luck.

Man that was long! Hope it helps. Good luck!

Oh God. When I was writing my post no one had yet answered... I didn't mean Patsy and Iggly are not knowledgable people
Sorry

top tip: female orgasm AFTER male orgasm

Igglybuff · 26/03/2010 21:49

devils! Yes I've heard of women finishing themselves off afterwards

spiltthetea unfortunate timing there!

devilsadvocaat · 27/03/2010 09:04

apparently the female orgasm helps the little buggers get there!

good luck

We're ttc #4, so you'd think we knew how to do it by now!
The other 3 were all quick to conceive.
As far as I can tell, everythings going in the right place at the right time. Having 3 already, I don't feel I can go to the Dr for tests, as there are far more deserving cases who should take up Dr's time
Splitthetea, I have spotted a flaw, having read your post - we are not having lots of sex! I know when i ovulate, so we tend to do the deed once or twice at the right time. Poor dh isn't going to know what's hit him in a couple of weeks
Thanks for the tips - keep them coming

Interestinglino,

Do not assume that you're ovulating when you think you are - it is all too easy to get that particular date wrong. Even women with regular periods have the occasional anovulatory cycle. It is also possible to have periods without ovulating.

Timing of intercourse is more often than not a mistake and it can also leave the man feeling used. You need to also stop thinking about having sex at "the right time"; that is another mistake. You are not having enough sex and this may well be a factor in not conceiving (sex two or three times a week throughout the cycle is fine).

Igglybuff · 27/03/2010 18:27

Yes interestinglino just do it all the time and try and relax. That way you don't have to worry about missing the "window"
