when to go to docs

Any advice would be appreciated. Have been ttc for 6/7 months and still no luck. I realise in the big scheme of things this isn't that long but just wondered how long should wait before going to docs? I am 33 which worries me although I have a regular 28 day cycle. This would be baby no1! xxx

Usually it would be 12 months, but due to your age, then a gp should see you now, 6-12 months for ladies over 30 I believe, but that was a while ago so may have changed. x

Just mention it at your next GP visit. I said fairly early on as I was on meds that needed to change.

Gp started test on us after 4m but its usually a year. I had previous problems that needed confirming weren't causing problems.

Thankyou, maybe i'll leave it another couple of months then and then go see gp. x

Hi dufflecoat my advice would be to get the ball rolling now. It cant hurt to get your rubella checked/bloods tested and a referral to fertility consultant, as the months soon pass by. From my experience anyway! Good luck x

Thanks all, maybe i won't wait and will make an appointment now x

Hey dufflecoat, you are in almost exactly the same situation as me: I am 32 (pushing 33) and 6 months trying for my first. To be honest I went to GP straight away for him to do the rubella / toxoplasmosis tests. He did say these are not a must but they are commonly advised by GPs in the UK (insert here a disclaimer that I am not a medical professional...). So you may as well go for these preconception checks and then chat to him/her about how long you've been at it. Mine already started tests for me. So far my hormonal tests were good, waiting for hubby to get his bleep in gear and do his bit now. I hope I did not blither on too much!

Thanks MountTheFairy, is good to know that when you went they did something straight away. I was concerned that going this early they would just send me away and tell me to keep trying and go back in 6 months! x
