Well, it's not possible to fall pregnant on an anovulatory cycle as there is no egg to fertilise.

Not all women ovulate on day 14; that is a total myth. Women can ovulate earlier or later than day 14, or not at all.

Best advice is lots of sex. Every second day or so or more if you fancy it!

If you wish to use OPK's perhaps start using them earlier in your cycle, and keep using them until you record a +ve OPK. I'd recommend charting as well, which would show with a sustained temperature rise if you have ovulated in any one cycle.

(I have a long cycle and didn't get an OPK some months until day 18 or 19) but one of the months I did get pregnant I didn't get a +ve on the OPK at all.

OPK can be a bit hit and miss IME.

Yes! I bought a load of tests, tested almost every day and according to the tests I wasn't ovulating. Due to DH being away for most of that month, I know that I only had sex at the times when the tests said I wasn't ovulating...

I was ovulating. The proof is asleep on my lap now, gorgeous as ever

What have your temps been like? It is quite possible that you have OVed and missed it; not sure about digi OPKs but the dip ones aren't all that reliable as it's quite easy to miss the hormone surge (see peeonastick.com for more info).

You do know that you don't necessarily Ov on CD14 don't you? (apologies if you do!) Are you charting? Because personally I'd go for that before OPKs.

I stopped using the OPK's because it was negative every month and costing me a fortune as I started having to go through two a month.

I am now 37.5 weeks pregnant so there is hope.

Do you have a irregular cycle? I was advised that they are very inaccurate if you have irregular cycles.

OPKs won't necessarily confirm an anovulatory cycle as there is room for user error. I find that if I test in the afternoon (at the recommended time), it always shows negative. I assume this is because I drink so much liquid. Even on days on which I've crossed my legs and held off going to the loo and tested positive either that morning or the morning after I get a negative later in the day. But when I test first thing in the morning (when the instructions say NOT to test), I get a positive that aligns with charting signs.

I think OPKs can be fairly unreliable in giving you false negatives but think they are far less likely to give you a false positive.

Lucy my cycle is generally all over the place anything from 25 days to 40 days plus. I had kind of given up and was waiting for my follow-up fertility appointment when I got pregnant. On the month I fell pregnant the baby was conceived on day 15 of my cycle. I think my problem was that I rarely ovulated although I can't be sure.

We are expecting another boy and can't wait!

If you usually OV on day 14/15 and BDed on day 17 then it may have been too late, as the egg tends to break down pretty fast after OV. You are most fertile just before you OV.

Even if everything is right though, the chances of actually getting PG in any one month are only something like 12 or 20% (exact figures escape me but they aren't high).

Good luck, hope it happens for you soon

i used the wee sticks and they have worked for me quickly the last two times - i am 40 too so with a dodgy old cycle they were great

with my previous child they worked a treat but with this pregnancy i got caught unawares and thought i had a had an anovulatory cycle but actually was already pregnant! i was all weepy and poor me about it, so full of woe that i didn't realise i was pregnant for a few weeks - just thought my cycle had mucked up further.

I know this is easy for me to say, but really it will happen but i do understand that the anxiety creeps in really wuickly as soon as you start charting stuff

also, having and orgasm after him (this is the thing i personally base all my conceiving brilliance on!) and legs up the wall does no harm either did that in previous pregnancy and he read to me whilst i was upside down (dreadful mental picture i know)
