Hi all,

Getting myself a little confused with the whole 'pregnancy is actually 10 months not 9 months' ..... if I want to plan a due date of around the 20th October, when should i look to conceiving???

Best not to think in months; look at it in terms of weeks instead. A pregnancy is generally 40 weeks from first day of last period.

But very difficult to plan a due date that precisely - your cycle might not be right to be due around then (you might find that your potential dates are either 5th Oct or 5th Nov, rather than around the 20th). Also you won't necessarily conceive that month (even if you get everything right, on the right days etc, there is still only around a 25% chance of conceiving, depending on your age). And even if you do, your baby could be up to 2 weeks early or late.

I naievely (sp? doesn't look right) thought that as I got pg accidentally first time, that I would get pg really easily this time, and like you, thought that I would like to have a baby in Oct, so started trying in Jan. Am now on my 3rd month of TTC, think I might have done it this time (AF due today!), but due date will be end Nov.

But short answer is, to be due end of Oct you need to conceive in Jan.

It's not 10 months. A month is longer than 4 weeks (except February obviously) so it is 40 weeks, or nine months. Otherwise, if we said that a month was 4 weeks long there would 13 months in a year.... Due dates are measured from the first day of your last period, even though you actually conceive roughly two weeks later when you ovulate. If you want a due date of 20th October you should have tried to conceive at the middle/end of January.
If you had the first day of your period today, the baby would be due around Christmas.
Hope that helps!

I wasnt sure if it was early on in December! Then kept thinking...hmm maybe its Jan....no, Dec....!!!

Thankyou for clearing that up!There are so many factors to consider! I will take your advice and go by weeks though

Goodluck with your BFP!
