Pregnant with the witdrawal method??

Hi, has anyone out there become pregnant using the withdrawal method, when their husband is 100% careful about pulling out in time? My partner isn't really keen on another child, but adopted this method, after I told him contraception was his responsibility! (Underhanded I know, but I am getting rather desperate for number 3, and he is a stubborn git!) Trouble is, he's very good at it!

Well it definitely does/can happen. My mother had 2 pregnancies this way.

I think it also depends on your cycle as to whether you are at a greater chance of pregnancy....so leaving it up to him (unless he has great knowledge of your cycle) is not really going to be 100% effective.

But as you say, you want a 3rd, so there is no consequence for you. But I would be careful, because if you don't end up pregnant, he may not be so happy....but then I guess he should use a more effective contraception!

DS1 is a result of this method, so it can happen.

nope We used this method on and off for 4 years and never got pregnant the times we decided to go for it (twice) i got pregnant.

DD is a result of withdrawal, so yes it does happen!

BigBadMummy · 21/03/2010 07:54

I thought that in theory you could get pregnant as sperm are often released in pre-cum (sorry TMI for a Sunday morning, I know) so that may well have happened before withdrawal.

Hell, I got pregnant twice whilst on the pill so I am sure I would have got pregnant this way too!!

This is on the Women's Health website:

"Research has shown that this method is between 73% and 96% effective. 85% of heterosexual partners who simply leave pregnancy up to chance are likely to become pregnant, while only 19% of those who use the withdrawal method are".

So you could well be in that 19%!

Oh well. There is hope I suppose! Sometimes it is so depressing! He never wants anything to change, we have major trouble if I want to paint the living room!

Whether or not it is possible is not the issue here, the problem is that you are hoping for another child and he is not willing.

If you do get pregnant, how is he going to take it?

mollybob · 21/03/2010 11:21

My DH is a product of this method - very glad it didn't work!

BigTillyMint · 21/03/2010 11:28

Yes you can get pregnant using this method

susssiq · 21/03/2010 15:18

meant to write nope not for us so far, obviously it can happen no method is 100%

The thing about my partner is, that he is scared of change. We have been together 20 years, and we'd still be living at home if everything was left to him. You kind of need to take him along for the ride, then he sorts his head out and is fine, he loves the other two and life in general, he just needs shoving in the right direction! ( nudging being far to subtle!)

I have been using this 'method' for close on two years and not had any accidents, happy or otherwise.
