Hi Ladies!!
TTC for 3 years. Currently on Clomid(100mg). Just ordered the Ovacue fertility monitor on the internet. I've read great reviews and have really irregular cycles, so I need all the help I can get. Just curious to know if any one else has any experience with this device??

At 3 years of ttc without success I think you are well beyond using such things and I would cancel the order. I know you want to do something but this is really not the way to go. It may just cause you more stress long term along with continual false positive results. If such a thing to use as well was not advised by your gynae then I would avoid. Also you're better off having blood tests done (particularly whilst on clomid as this can affect hormone levels markedly). Also using such a kit when using clomid is a no as the clomid could influence the result.

You should be monitored whilst on clomid as it is quite powerful stuff. If you are not monitored at all you have no way of determining whether its doing its job or not (making the ovaries work harder).

If you have really irregular cycles the chances are that these are caused by hormonal imbalances. One such possible cause is a condition called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). As you've been given clomid I would assume there is some sort of ovulatory problem. Clomid is usually a first line treatment for women with ovulatory problems.

Do you actually have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

Hi Attila
Thanks for your response. Well we were ttc on our own for about 2 years before we thought, hey we better get some help. I have VERY irregular cycles, few and far between. So I have been with a fertitly specialst for about 11 months, had ultrasounds, dye test to check fallopian tubes, everything came back normal.Hubby's sperm count and motility is great. I get blood work every month while on clomid and metformin to ensure I am ovulating. Well for the first 5 months, I was not ovulating, even on clomid, then finally on the 6th month I ovulated, and I have been ovulating ever since.BUT even on the drug I can't seem to track my weird cyles. for example, December I had a 34 day cycle, Jan was 31 days and Feb was 38!!!!
So I saw this ovacue online and said hey maybe this can help me pinpoit my best days since I never seem to be getting it right LOL

Did they ever do a day 2 and day 21 blood tests?.

Using clomid and metformin in combination could point to PCOS as a cause; this combination is sometimes given to such patients.

Have they actually been unable to diagnose you after all this time?. Have they checked your thyroid to make sure that is working properly?.

I would still not be using the monitor in your circs as the clomid/met will affect it.
You'd really be better off spending your hard earnt cash on other things.

I actually have been told I have unexplained infertility. They say everythings working the way it should now and it's just a matter of getting the timing right. So who knows? I do know that I desperatly want to concieve and I know I'm really vunerable, and will believe anything I see. It was kind of an impulse buy.

wishin I have irregular cycles and I have conceived twice. When ttc#1 my cycles were 34, 42, 53, 35 and then conceived DS on day 19 (so it would have been a 33 day cycle). I was in the process of having day 3 and day 21 bloods to investigate my irregular lengthening cycles but got my bfp before I got the results.

The second time I conceived was whilst breastfeeding. My previous cycles since getting my first period 6 months after childbirth were 3 months, 6 weeks, then 8 weeks and conceived sometime in week 8 the next cycle. Unfortunately that ended in an early mc. But it just shows that you can conceive when you're irregular.

I'm considering going back to the gynae to get my cycles checked out again as they've been 23 and 37 days since the mc and am now on day31 and think I could be on course for a 45 day cycle.

If you know you're ovulating then charting temps, cm and your cervical position may help to pinpoint ovulation. But in my (unprofessional) opinion I don't think a range of 31-38 days is that irregular, you could just aim to have sex every other day from day 12 till day 26, preferably till you are sure you've ovulated which you should be able to tell via those charting methods I mentioned.

Have you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler? I found it very interesting when ttc the first time. I'm going for the 'lots of regular sex throughout entire cycle' method at the moment, but keeping one eye on my cervix position so I know when to expect my period. I have always had a tendency to stop having sex when I 'think' I've ovulated and then realising when period comes that I've ovulated later than I thought. So bad timing has been main problem to date. And it sounds like you have the same problem.

Apologies if Ive told you what you already know, just wanted to let you know that I didn't think you were that irregular and that if you've been told you're ovulating then you have to believe you have just as good a chance as anyone at conceiving (provided you have sex at the right time)

AttilaTheMeerkat · 12/03/2010 07:33

wishin,

Oh sod that (excuse my french). It has NOTHING to do with incorrect timings.
You were fobbed off and badly so when you were told this.

Forget charting as well, at three years plus of ttc without success you are well beyond that initial stage. With irregular cycles as well charting will not assist you at all in any way because it will likely confuse you even more. A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days OR with a variation of 4 days or less from month to month.

You need proper medical help and investigation and for that you will likely need to travel to your nearest city. You will need to be persistant as well in order to get answers.

"Unexplained subfertility" is actually no diangosis at all; all this means is that they have failed to find out what is wrong. It is sometimes also given to patients when they have not been adequately investigated.
I do not for one minute think you've been properly investigated fertility wise. The service you have had to date is very poor.

wishinanhopin · 12/03/2010 17:27

Yes
I know I've been getting the run around. I live in Canada, and so far the help I have received has been covered through medicare, but now I'm going to start going to a private fertility clinic about an hour from my home. Until now we were hoping we would get preggers on our own, but now it's time to face reality. We need help. So in 2 weeks I'm goin g to have my first round of tests with some experts at the clinic.
Thanks for your support and advice.

digital
Thanks for your reply. I laughed out loud when you said you have sex up until you "think" you ovulated then stop, and WAIT for af, only to realized you stopped WAY too early. I have not read "taking charge of your fertility" but I think I just might make a purchase on the way home.LOL.
Congrats on your little ones, hoping it will happen for me someday, somehow.
