Hi wonder if someone can help I am ttc but having trouble working out when I will be ovulating, I have periods every 24 days and have been looking at ovulation calendars on line, but after reading an article it says you count from the first day of period to the day B4 your next, if that's right I am 23 days????? also how would I work out my lutel phase?

Thanks xx

its usual to ov 14 dayd before the begining of your next AF but as you have a very short cycle if I were you I would buy some ov tests from ebay and test yourselve from say day 7 until you see a pos. Hope that helps Also it may be worth trying to make your cycle longer I am sure there are vits that help with this I would see your doctor about it.

I had no idea either and was having trouble plotting it so I bought the Calista ovulation test on impulse. It's a little viewer the size of a lipstick. You lick the viewing plate then leave it to dry, then look at it in the magnifying light- up viewer.
If you're not fertile your saliva makes boring blobs- but if you're ovulating it makes a very cool crystal/fern leaf pattern.
Thought I'd mention it as I'd never heard of it.
(must add, being pregnant gives a ferny pattern too!)

I don't know I'm afraid... I suppose if it doesn't go back to 'boring blobs' after a few days then buy a test

Ovulation is not an exact science and a woman can ovulate earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. Therefore the "ovulating 14 days before a period" is a complete falsehood, it is not correct to assume that a person ovulates before the start of the next period. Only around 12% of all women as well have a 28 day cycle.

You'd be better off not wasting your money on kits (waste of money for most people) and having blood tests done instead. At least these would be free and more importantly accurate.

That's why I liked the calista- it's a physical change in your saliva that you can see. No money wasted, nothing to throw away- just infinitely re- usable.

You could go down the charting route (ie, taking your temperature and watching for changes in cervical mucus each cycle) - I found www.fertilityfriend.com very helpful for this. Also if you haven't read it, get hold of a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility - it is excellent.
