Worrying ahead a bit but talk to me about options( and what happens if dh goes private) when sperm count is low

Dh is going for second test. Last one said low count and very thick . GP said he will refer him if this is similar. We wondered about using private health cover ( he already has it & doesn't use it) if there is a wait to be seen BUT what happens if it leads to treatment involving me. I know if you go private then you have to carry on but I'm not covered so what happens then?

You need to look at the wording of the policy. Most private insurance policies (especially those given through work)don't cover elective procedures such as assisted conception so that's the first thing you need to check.

If you're lucky, and it does, then the best thing to do is just call them and ask them what they will cover. You should always check this in advance anyway as there are so many exclusions/ limits that it's best to get it straight before you commit to any treatment.

Good luck!

Thanks, if we have to have IVF treatment we will have to pay anyway, I'm worried about the middle bit where NHS does pay (IUI etc)

Nymph - in lots of places you would get 2 or 3 'goes' of IUI or ICSI on the NHS - I would def give this a try before going down the private route (that way massive expense lies - delay and try other options first if poss).

Thats what I thought, though we don't tick a lot of eligility boxes. I have kids and DH is too old and I am too young

Anyway we don't know for definate he doesnt work [hopeful]
