Prolapsed Uterus - TTC - Embarrasing Questions

CRINGE ALERT - CAN'T BELIEVE I'M ASKING THESE QUESTIONS

Hi there

I have a prolapsed uterus which must have happened after I gave birth to DS 1 in 2003. I first noticed something was drastically wrong in 2006. Saw consultant shortly after. He fitted me with a ring pessary as we had not completed our family and advised that I did not go for the op to repair it until we had. Which is fine.

Got pregnant in 2007 twice but miscarried.

We used to take the ring out when we had sex but after seeing a womens health physio she said there was no need - so now we don't which is a little bit wierd but fine.

No pregnancies since then although we are still trying.

Does anyone know if by leaving the ring in when we have sex be stopping sperm from getting into the right place?

Also - and I can't even believe I am asking this question because it sounds so rediculous - if I go swimming around my fertile time (and having sex so sperm would be present) - as I am sort of biggish 'down there' would the sperm be washed out. Would it be advisable not to go swimming. God that sounds so silly!!

But any advice or to hear of similar experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

No question is either too silly or too cringeworthy!.

I would be looking to revisit the cons you saw initially. He could advise you re the ring pessary now.

If you have been ttc for over a year without success then further investigative tests should be done on both of you (this is also in view of your gynae history and uterine prolapse). I would seek medical advice in any event.

Re the swimming, of course you can go swimming. Emough sperm will get to the cervix from where it cannot escape so the semen will not be washed out.

Do not put too much emphasis though on the "fertile time" - it is all too easy to get the date wrong. Make love when you both feel like it and do not put pressure on yourselves byt hinking "oooh its the fertile time". A common mistake this.

Hi,

So glad you posted this. I am TTC#3. I have a cystocele and rectocele, both grade 3, and im pretty sure i have a urethracele as of today - (you know when it happens - that awful feeling like some part of your body has just dropped)

I saw a consultant 3 weeks ago who said i should try more physio first before a ring - after 8 months of it i think more is a waste of time, so want to go back asap. Consultant did say ring might cause problem TTC. She also said sex would be painful with it in.

Swimming is the only excercise i can manage right now - does the ring help? i cant go on like i am - i need to get back to normal. Can you take it out and resinsert by yourself easily?

It is a good to find someone else TTC with prolapse.

Oh ragdolly1 you poor thing. Not much fun is it!! Apart from the fact that I feel like an 80 year old woman with this problem the TTC issue is now getting on my nerves a bit. There is nothing the NHS will do about it as I've already had a child so would not qualify for any kind of assistance, even though I have a massive problem in the downstairs department. Also as I'm 40 this year and time is of the essence we have actually now decided to start a course of IUI next month. GULP!

As I said before I used to take the ring out to have sex, but now I don't. It doesn't hurt. My husband says it feels a bit odd but generally it does not cause a problem. The sort I wear is here. Its the one at the top of the page on the left hand side:

www.mediplus.co.uk/products/gynaecology/MilexPessaries.pdf

Also this chap is my consultant and has a website that has useful information:

www.whik.co.uk/public/Home.html

I know prolapses vary from person to person but I would have thought that no amount of physio could stop a prolapse in its tracks!! I suppose try the physio then insist you see the consultant again. I know that looking at the link to the sheet of ring pessaries - there are loads and some of them look quite invasive so perhaps thats maybe why he wants you to try physio first.

Where are you in the country? Beacuse if you are in Kent I highly recommend this Consultant and he was recommeneded to me from a friends mum who actually had the operation as obviously she wasn't going to have any more children.

I'm now in my 2WW. Period due on 2nd. Be very shocked if I was actually pregnant, but who knows ... here's hoping!

Hi,

Hoping you have some luck this cycle!

Thanks for the info - the consultant said they only do one kind of pessary which is the ring - i know that would be the least likely to interfere with ttc, but that link says its for mild prolapse - so not sure it will help much as im grade 3! I'm in herts, but hospital is in bucks.

I think i may look into seeing whats available privatly - but of course im still limited to what i can use with TTC.

Waiting to ov at the moment, hope you had some luck!

Is it easy to take it in and out?

michelle
