Pregnant by withdrawal method?

Hello

DH and I have been using the withdrawal method (it wouldn't be the end of the world being pg but he isn't keen). I'm pretty sure we had sex around the time I ovulated. He is always super-careful and never ejaculates inside me.

I think my period is due this saturday but since thursday or friday of last week I've been getting cramps (not so bad but definitely aware of them) and sometimes weird (mild pains). I'd do a pregnancy test but think i should be patient and wait. plus keep telling myself it's probably just my period coming.

Has this happened to any of you? Anyone who got pg using the withdrawal method and they were sure that their partner had been careful?

Hate waiting!!!!!!!

wastingaway · 19/01/2010 14:14

Skihorse,I don't understand, but am sorry you are sad.

xkatyx · 19/01/2010 14:18

I think there may of been a mix up with durex condoms and delux paint?! x

MumofOscar · 19/01/2010 14:21

Oh you silly girl, of course the withdrawal method isn't reliable! The only way to guarantee you don't get caught is to do a wee straight after!

skihorse · 19/01/2010 14:36

katy quite... at my house we never tire of giggling at the Durex dog in the park.

mumofoscar Should she or should she not wash her hair? That one always confuses me.

clarebear It's a method of getting pregnant.

LittleWhiteWolf · 19/01/2010 14:36

Think thats a bad mix-up? I once referced to the durex bunny...

bronze · 19/01/2010 14:41

nnnooo mumofoscar- in the shower! dont you know anything

MumofOscar · 19/01/2010 15:07

skihorse no she definately shouldn't wash her hair! {shock}

bronze of course - in the shower! Althoug only if no hair washing!

xkatyx · 19/01/2010 15:10

Clairebear - it's when you get to the "vital" part, he jumps out and makes a mess of your sheets (or belly, or boobs, or a tissue...) but it is a complete myth as blokes have this thing called pre-cum where you can get pregnant from the moment he enters you basically. Not AS likely as if he came in you, but still very much possible.

PS- you can also get STDs that way.

Basically, use a condom (and maybe the pill as well) at all times. If you are with a bloke you trust, and you have both had the full STD test, you could drop down to just the pill/coil/whatever if you want. The only time an unprotected penis should enter the vagina of a woman who isn't using any contraception herself is if they are both after a baby.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

xkatyx · 20/01/2010 14:01

silverbear have you taken a test yet?

stuffedmk · 20/01/2010 15:40

DH believes this method to be reliable ....unfortunately it has been for us

clarebear1 · 20/01/2010 20:38

ah ok thanks butter pie

mawbroon · 20/01/2010 20:58

Anyone familiar with Edinburgh may know the withdrawal method as "getting off at Haymarket" LOL

hippopo · 21/01/2010 20:16

My DH and I used this method for almost 10 years. When we did start trying it took 2 years and was petrified was infertile and this was why it had worked for so long. In hindsight we were silly as we have been together since we were 18.

A good friend of mine in commited relationship knew this 'worked' for us and recommend to her DP and she now has a dd who is almost 3.

I will not be recommending this to anyone else or my children when we have the 'sex' talk.

Mariesthename · 23/01/2010 17:20

It seemed to take us ages to conceive the first time so we used the withdrawal method afterwards. The result is we now have two boys with a very close gap between them! On the other hand we have now been ttc no3 for 18 months with no luck - just goes to prove you can't plan anything!

Medee · 24/01/2010 16:05

no sign of the OP, wonder if she got the result she wanted?

wigglybeezer · 24/01/2010 16:27

I have to say that we never had any mishaps with it, used it for about three years after DS3 but had a coil put in for a change (and after descision to definitely not have more DC, getting a bit old), DC's all conceived pretty quickly too so fertility not an issue.

I actually found taking a slight risk pretty sexy but then I was willing to risk the consequences (and will tell my DS's that it definitely doesn't work when they are old enough for the talk).

Picklepants · 30/01/2010 21:42

mawbroon From a fellow Edinburger: LOL!! Can't believe I've never heard that before! Have been lurking on the TTC boards for last wee while, I had to register just to post this

mehdismummy · 22/03/2010 18:36
