Anyone self prescribed clomid?

Hi ladies, I'm just after honest stories (good or bad) from anyone that has self prescribed clomid please.
We've been ttc for 3.5yrs and everything just seems to be going so slowly (the whole process of tests/scans/paper works etc)
I bought some 25mg clomid several months ago and only took it for 1 cycle as I was really worried about ohss. However, I didn't have any side effects from the clomid at all so thought maybe it had no effect, so I was thinking of trying 50mg next cycle - I'm having a scan on cd 10 an usually ov on cd 13, so they'd see if I had too many follies, right?
Also, I only have one tube, so chances of multiples from clomid would be lower....?? Don't get me wrong, twins would be great, but 4 etc, I don't think me or my body would cope?
I have many friends who have/had clomid without any monitoring, surely I'd just be in the same boat, and 50mg isn't to high a dose?
Please no lectures, I'm feeling so desperate I just want some honest advice.
Thanks.

MrsGaga Totally honest? It's a route I'd considered going down as I'd been trying nearly a year (361 days) until I got a "sticky".

Mrs G

No lectures but think about this some more here because this is your body we're talking about here and it is very precious.

Where is the clomid coming from?. Can you vouch for the source?. Do you know its genuine?. Clomid is also quite powerful stuff and is not always suitable for all who take it; it certainly does not work for everyone. Its primary and sole job is to make the ovaries work harder. The difference between you and your friends is that they have been prescribed it by a medical person. Self prescribing such medicine whilst understandable when you are desperate can do you more harm than good.

The usual minimum dose is 50mg (you took a dose that would have had no effect at all); the max is 150mg and is usually only given for a period of six months.

At 3.5 years of ttc you've both already had a very hard time of it. Where are they at with regards to tests, do you both have up to date test results?. Do you feel that both of you have been adequately investigated?.

The three of you need to be able to work as a team and communicate effectively. If they are not listening and/or are mucking you around ask GP to re-refer you to another unit.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers and it is all too easy to be fobbed off.

Thanks for your kind replies ladies.

My scan on cd 10 is to check my tube, to see if it's clear for IUI, if so we have to wait for paper work - to see if we have funding, which seems to take ages (I'm not in the UK, paper work is sooooo slow here).
If my tube is fine then we will be given one go at IUI then move onto ICSI, the other thing that will slow us down is my dh can't get time off work.
It's so tempting to just take the clomid but my head is saying 'waoooo, easy tiger!', whilst my heart aches for a bfp
I guess the frustration is in knowing we're still months away from that next step....

Thanks for listening

I have also thought of doing this if at my hospital appt I'm told I'm too fat for clomid but I am concerned you don't know what you're getting from an online self prescribing pharmacy. My plan is go private for clomid Ii nhs consultant says no.
