Anyone used The Centre for Reproductive and Genetic Health

I am just starting to look into private assisted conception. The Centre for Reproductive and Genetic Health (formerly ACU) on Gray's Inn Road is most convenient for us, relatively affordable (compared to the others) and near my DH work which is good for appointments, and has a relatively high live birth rate (about 50% for my age).

Has anyone been there and how did you find it?

Thank bamboostaks - I will check it out. The good news is UCH have done all our tests and apparently they can be used by the clinic so don't have to be repeated.

I had 2 rounds of IUI with ACU, but this was nearly 5 years ago now, before they moved to Grays Inn Road and before the name change. I was under Paul Serhal, who is still the Clinical Director, and he is a wonderful man. My NHS Consultant had referred me for IVF, but Mr Serhal thought that I was an ideal candidate for IUI, and low and behold, 2 months later after 2 very frustrating years under the NHS, I conceived DD, who will be 4 next month.

Location is a very key deciding fact, but bear in mind that your DH will only have to go for a couple of appointments (other than supporting you of course). You will have to go in for regular scans and blood tests, so you need to consider if it is easy for you to get too as well - I was going in every other day for up to 2 weeks before my IUI.

The whole medical team there were fantastic, although having looked at the website the centre has got much bigger since I was there. Let me know if there is anything specifically you would like to know - agree that FertilityFriends.co.uk is a great place for advice as well!

Thanks tattycatty - why were you ideal for iui? Did you find it horrendously expensive? So pleased you've had a success story.

I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and basically don't ovulate, so "all" (haha!) I needed was IUI with ovulation induction using Menopur injections. We already knew that my tubes etc were fine as I'd had 2 laparoscopies in the previous year. I'd tried Clomid with zero results, and two lots of ovarian drilling didn't help either. The Menopur basically kick started my ovaries, and I got 3 dominant follicles on both cycles. The actual IUI process meant that the timing was perfect - in Mr Serhal's words, "we'll use the best possible sperm and make sure it's in exactly the right place at the right time"

Sorry - forgot to answer your question re costs. I think they were pretty average for the time, and IUI was about a third of the price of IVF, so it didn't feel as painful. We were extremely fortunate to be funded by my parents in law (youngest son, only one married at the time - they were very keen to help us out and finally get a grandchild!), so I'm afraid I don't know exact costs.

Yes my family are paying for us too. We wouldn't afford it otherwise so feel extraordinarily lucky. I have pcos but do ovulate and hsg showed clear tubes. Next step on nhs is clomid but am making plans in case that doesn't work. DH has okay sperm though not brilliant.

Thank you for answering my questions. X
