Hi guys,

I've posted previously... but now im trying to think more about my cycles that TTC...

here the situation. the past 2 months i have thought that I could be PG, which i'm not. DP and i would love to start a family but not thinking of it as "TTC" as the thought of extensive planning feel like we're setting ourselves up for failure? however...

after looking back at my cycles im thinking i have been ovulating on the complete different days for what i thought. i thought i was on an 28/29 day cycle.. then when i was 1 week or 2 weeks late i'd get excited. but...... my cycles are infact:

Since coming off pill on 29th July 2009 (i was only on this for a few months) my previous pill was last year which i stopped in november 2008

my cycles have been:

33 days (4 weeks 4 days)
29 days (4 weeks)
42 days(6 weeks)
35 days (5 weeks)

I came on 15.12.209.. any idea for when i should see next AF, or ovulation dates????

Do not get too hung up on ovulation dates; ovulation is not an exact science by any means and it is all too easy to get the date wrong. Ovulation can happen earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle, its certainly not always the 14th day.

I would keep an eye on your cycles; if they consistenly begin to get longer in nature then a visit to the GP is in order. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating which is more likely if periods become consistently irregular.

If your last cycle was the 15.12 then you should expect to see a period again sometime in mid January.

Attila has good advice on this topic IME

BUT

I tried to go by ovulation dates for a while, though I didn't do everything that you can do. Then someome suggested just having sex once evry two days from the day your period finishes and I got pg straight away!

It's probably far from foolproof but it is stress free.

Thanks for the replies!

Congrats Laturkey!

I have never experience them being this irregular. but its possibly from going on the pill, coming off, starting a new one, coming off in the space of like 9 months-1 yr?!

I have been to the doctor in november to check for cysts, any abnormalities with an USS... and she said it couldnt be a more perfect scan! so that made me happy..

But yeah ovulation dates are so temperamental, plus one month i was mega stressed so that was probably a reason..

we were mostly having intercourse a week after i finished.. which could have been to early/too late according to these dates i guess..

I'm going to the doctors on Wednesday anyways so i can ask about that too!

has anyone else experienced anything else like this?

Have you tried temping (ie, taking your temperature each morning) to help pinpoint your ovulation? I'd really recommend it - it's a bit of a faff but so worth it - taught me a lot about my cycles and what was going on. There are websites like fertilityfriend.com that can help you do it all online.

Also, if you haven't read it, Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an excellent book, well worth a read.

Freeasabird58 · 17/12/2009 15:22

I haven't tried that yet.

The thing is, DP & i have spoken about starting a family in the future. and even though we think it would be lovely. we dont like terming it as "TTC". more than anything/useful is for me to know when my periods are coming, becuase it causes my hormones to go on overload.. then i think i might be pregnant! get excited, then come on the following week. so i think at the moment, its more about understanding my cycles more than TTC?

Even though we do want kids, we prefer to term it "not preventing" "going with fate?" lol

it sounds really stupid but i feel like if i say "We're trying" i'm MAKING something happen?

god i could talk for england, i apologise!

But you don't need to call it ttc? It's all about understanding your cycles - you don't have to think of it as "trying to have a baby" - you can just use temping etc as a way of finding out what's going on with your cycles. Hell, some people even use it as a way of preventing pregnancy!

Anyway, hope you get some answers soon.

My cycles were like this when I came off the pill - I had one of 41 days, one of 69!! days and then got pregnant next cycle. Although you're not TTC, it will help your frustration with not knowing what's going on if you have a go at temping. It's really not that much of a hassle once you get into the habit, and I don't think I would have got pregnant without it to be honest with my crazy cycles. The GP told me that wildly fluctuating cycles tend to mean that you are not ovulating and I am pretty sure I didn't on the first two (there tends to be a temperature rise just after ovulation so you can see it on the chart - magic) obviously the third one was the charm. Good luck. Maybe keep the old temping on the hush hush if your DP is not keen on the 'planning' side of TTC!

My cycles were really long too after coming off the pill, they were'nt like that the last 2 times i came off it,but this time i had a 36,44 and 43 day cycle ,my last cycle i got to day 45 and thought i'd do a test and it was positive,so it does'nt really seem to matter how long your cycles are, good luck

Freeasabird58 · 17/12/2009 18:32

Dp wants a baby! we just dont want to pressure ourselves...

so whats the best way to temp? shall i just google it to read about it?

www.fertilityfriend.com/ this would be a good starting point - lots of info about how to do it and how it all works. It's free to join up too unless you want the "vip" membership.

bellabelly · 17/12/2009 18:36

oops linky

crumpetsolo · 17/12/2009 18:53

I second fertilityfriend.com - it is slightly addictive though! It tells you all about when to temp etc (first thing in the morning when you wake up) You'll need a digi thermometer though as the changes in temperature are tiny and won't show as well on a normal thermo. Have fun!!
