Don't have the exact blood test results myself yet, but I'm definitely being referred to the fertility specialist on the basis of what the gynaecologist read from the results.

Stressing a bit now - what should I be asking about? I feel like I need a list of questions so I don't come out regretting that I forgot to ask something. Obviously I'm not yet sure exactly what the tests confirm, though I've long suspected PCOS. I'm a total novice in the whole ttc thing, and don't even know where a fertility specialist would begin, if it's PCOS or any other condition. Are there drugs that can make me more fertile? If it is PCOS, is there a first step that can be taken with diet etc (I am not overweight).

Forgive my total ignorance, ladies, please!!

First things first, have they tested your OH yet? If not, it would be an excellent idea to get that done pronto and to refer you as a couple to the fertility specialist. It could save valuable time later if it turns out that there are issues on both fronts.

As for what to ask, I think the first appointment is mostly about them asking you all the questions (I am currently awaiting my first appt). So I would make sure you are prepared with lots of details about your TTC stats so far, medical history, etc. Ask them what tests they propose to do on you (bloods, ultrasound, HSG/hycosy as a minimum) and if your OH isn't at the same appointment, ask if they will deal with you both as a couple.

I think all the questions about what next, what are your chances, what are the likely outcomes etc should all come a bit further down the line when you have been properly assessed.

Thanks Cerubina!

They've done bloods and ultrasound so far (though not an internal ultrasound which is what I was actually expecting when I went for the appointment) and though the ultrasound didn't pick anything up I'm still convinced an internal ultrasound would have been more thorough. Bloods done on CD 3 must have picked something up as this is why the referral has happened. I had previously had blood test which led to my initial referral to the gynae that showed high prolactin level. Not sure yet whether it is this that the newer blood tests have picked up or whether it is something else. Previous blood tests also showed no abnormalities in LH/FSH, though they were not done on CD3.

It's all so complicated!! And to cap all my stress, we've just heard in an unrelated issue that DH has something wrong with his liver, apparently the liver of a heavy drinker despite the fact he only drinks around 10 units a week. So that's putting things into perspective, though I could really do without the extra stress right now

Good luck with your appointment!
