Horrible bleeding during ovulation dates

Hi,
Have been ttc for over a year now but no success yet and was wondering if it was anything to do with this bleeeding I have during ovulation?
My cycle is about 22 days and on the ovulation days I get this mixture of old muddy coloured blood and mucus. Needless to say having sex with a towel under you is hardy the most romantic thing in the world!
I have been to my doctor who seemed unconcerned saying bleeding is normal but this only started after I had my 1st child.

Does anyone else have this problem or any advice?

I have the same thing,my doctor just said it was probably ovulation bleeding too,i'm ttc for number 3 since may, did'nt have this with other two and caught 3rd and 1st month with them, doctor said to go back in a few months if it's still happening, sorry i'm not much help just wanted to let you know you are not alone

Thanks for the reply tobago04,
I thought it might be ovulation bleeding but when looked at health websites they seemed to say ovulation bleeding was bright red fresh blood and mine isn't.
This can go on for 3-4 days on and off

Yeah i thought the same but the doctor said maybe it is ovulation bleeding, think thats why ive got to go back as they dont really know,my cycles are really long this time too, good luck with ttc

It might be a cervical erosion, which means you have some slightly sensitive cells at the bottom of the cervix which bleed when they get bumped. If you've been having a bit of sex in the run-up to ovulation (which I presume since you're TTC) then it could be that.

I have had this on and off for a year or so, sometimes going on for a fortnight at a time, and just recently it was really getting me down as it was putting us off trying, and that was obviously not very helpful. I went to the doctor and she said just plough on regardless - it won't harm your chances, so long as it's not hurting then there is no reason to worry. It can make reading your CM a bit tricky but if you have a regular cycle you may have a good idea of when you're ovulating anyway.

Just a final thing - if you haven't had a smear test recently then it is worth having one and asking about this bleeding just in case, but otherwise my guess is it may be a bit of "overuse".

Thanks Cerubina,

Could be overuse, I suppose because it has only started to happen in the last couple of years it made me a little nervous and you're right it can get you down a little to say the least!

Will just keep trying and hoping for the best, thanks for the smear advice too but I have them every 6 months as had some dodgy cells beofre I fell pregnant the 1st time so I am so fully on their radar I'm almost on 1st name terms with nurses!!

mamabear,

I would ask your GP to refer you to a gynae for further evaluation particularly as you have been ttc for over a year now. Infact I would insist on this in your case.

This may not be anything to do with ovulation at all. Brown blood like this is "old" blood. Do you have pain at such times too.

I get mid cycle bleeding too (when not pregnant) which starts at ovulation and carries on till my period arrives 10-14 days later. I've always mentioned it at smear tests and no-one has ever shown any concern. I also worried that it would stop us conceiving, especially as it took us 7 months the first time. However, this time round, it happened the first month so I think the medics must be right, as least as far as I'm concerned).
Good luck!
