Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

Do these results look ok? Or is there indication something's not quite right?

Sorry, am repeating myself on a new thread but am desperate to know what they mean?!

Have run searches and think I get most of it, but am confused about the LH/FSH thing

So, CD21 - LH was 5.5, FSH was 3.1

Thanks

Bit of background: have had irregular cycles since birth of dd1 (nearly 6yrs ago) but went on to conceive dd2 with no problems (after 7m of trying)

Went to see Dr because a) fed up of irregular cycle b) want to rule out that something is 'wrong' c) made the decision to TTC dc3 so obviously need to know what's going on

Haven't had Day3 bloods done

Day21 test was as follows: LH 5.5, FSH 3.1, progesterone 65.1, prolactin 224

Thyroid was ok apparently

Thanks for replying, btw

Irregular = anything from 30 days to 8-10 weeks!

This is the 1st cycle ttc. I do notice change in CM. tbh, if I wasn't ttc I'd still want to know the cause of the irregularity.

Feel I must say that am obviously VERY lucky and blessed to have 2 dds . So am not stressing about #3 yet... it was a PITA before when I was actively avoiding conception!

Thanks for the advice, Lenin

I guess I haven't been keeping track too closely, IYKWIM, because until 1m ago I wasn't TTC

Before then it was more about avoiding getting pg (not that we would have been upset, more that it wasn't the best time) so planning contraception etc was the issue

A real PITA not knowing when period will arrive. Also thinking about PCOS etc

Not really sure if I should ask Dr for a Day 3 test then?

NNB

LH and FSH are usually tested on day 3 as these two hormones kickstart the ovulation process. They are usually not tested on day 21 for this reason (usually only progesterone is tested at that time).

LH/FSH should be tested on day 3. If your cycles are very irregular the test can be done according to calendar days.

With consistently irregular cycles you are less likely to be ovulating regularly if at all. The cause of the irregularity warrants further investigation (and a condition called polycystic ovaries can be a likely culprit if thyroid imbalance has been ruled out).

Thankyou, thankyou

Progesterone was 65.1. Does that suggest ovulation occured?

Thanks for the link, Lenin

Hmm... I am anticipating battles ahead persuading the Dr to run further tests after his "everything looks alright" diagnosis yesterday

Have got to go back in 2wks for something else so will ask again then. Shall I come straight out and ask for a Day 3 test, do you think?

TBH if your periods are irregular like you state it is little point doing temp charting (its only of more use really if the menstrual cycle is consistently regular and even then it is not without its problems).

I would be asking for a day 3 test and if GP continues to be clueless then I'd be seeking a gynae referral.

Ok, won't bother with temping

So what other things are worth noting, the CM?

At this stage I am more interested in WHY my cycle is the way it is, and whether it means there is something 'wrong', IYKWIM (GP did manage to reassure me I wasn't pre-menopausal)

But it's complicated by the fact that I want to conceive as well. Will ask for the Day3 test then. Do I need to wait for period to arrive before this can be done?

Sorry for endless questions. You've both been really helpful, cheers
