am trying for baby number 2 but have had no luck firstly I was given badadvice re contraception after my first baby and that took a long time to regulate my periods again , and now periods seem to about 38 days apart, they have become more regular now, but still 38 days apart means I can't really use any accurate ovulation calenders, and also am loosing out on ovulation days, my gynacologist wants me to take temperature daily but does this really work, and also I really would like to try for a girl this time, advice would be great

Caydeb, check out the "Anyone Else Trying to Get Pregnant and Want to Talk About It" threads, there is lots of advice about charting your temp (it won't make you pregnant but it will help you and your doctor rule out some common causes of infertility) and about cycle length. Your personal ovulation calendar can be as long as you want it to be - most women don't have a 28 day cycle. The main thing is to check that you are ovulating, full stop. Temp taking and charting should help you confirm that.
Doing a Search Board will help you find the threads. Quite a few of us who posted on them at some point are now pregnant...and temp charting did work for me. On month two of trying, in fact.

Just to let you know, there are a few of us in the same boat - me for one. I am now using persona to try and pinpoint when I am ovulating as I have also had very irregular cycles since having my first baby. How old is your first?

hi caydeb,
well must say for me Brandy and babycham on a rug with a hot fire and romance seem to do the trick!
I haven't any way of helping really but want you to know that i am sure the more relaxed you are the more likely it is to happen. My aunty tried everything to conceive and in the end when she stopped trying they caught straight away.
Good luck!!

Hi Caydeb ... some advice that I was given was to have sex every other day throughout your cycle rather than work out your dates ... I know that is easier said than done ... even DH gulped when I told him!
It is hard isn't it? I was all over the place trying to sort out my dates and then last month I thought sod it ... I am not bothering anymore ... and hey presto - am now up the duff so to speak (very early days though .. )

thanks for the advice my first child is a boy Ben who is 20 months old, unfortunately I'm a shift worker working 12 hour day and night shifts which makes the every other day a good idea but very impractical, luckily for the past 3 months when we have been seriously trying I have been on days off from work on the good days, but how much longer this good fortune can last with my shifts I don't know.

Caydeb
I am only in my first month of Persona but so far its been easy to use. I had two days when the 'o' sign showed up which hopefully means I was ovulating. The first month gives you a lot of red days - ie days when you are supposed to abstain from bd - but if you are using it as an ovulation predictor, that means lots of days for possible bd!!! Its supposed to settle down after a few months once it works your cycle out. There is a website where there is more info - www.persona.org.uk - its supposed to be ok for shift workers. Have a read and see if it might be good for you. I got it because it was recommended on the trying to conceive threads.
