Hi all, new here and just searching for answers really. Had lap and dye thursday, doc said that both tubes are blocked and one seemed to be inflamed. I'm worried now, what could be causing the inflammation?? I'm not seeing a consultant for 6 weeks!! Has anyone had the same issues?? What will happen next??

Thanks for any support x

I haven't had the same issues but my heart feels for you. It's very hard to wait. We too are waiting to see a fertility specialist and I understand how hard it is to hold on until you get to ask all the questions that you need answers for. I hope that someone can share more. All the best xx

Thank you reflection, the waiting part is the hardest, everything seems to take so long. Hope all goes well with the specialist. xx

piigin

I'm really very sorry to hear this. I haven't had the same issues but I did have to have my fallopian tubes checked due to adhesions I developed after an appendicitis operation. They were clear, but prior to being tested I did loads of research in the event that they might not be.

Blocked fallopian tubes can be caused by a number of conditions. The most common ones include Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis and scar tissue/ adhesions (from previous pelvic surgeries).

The inflamation you mention indicates that you may have PID caused by a bacterial infection-- although only your consultant will be able to confirm this.

The main treatment for major blockages is IVF, as this allows for the bypassing of the fallopian tubes for fertilisation. If the blockage is minor, it may be able to be removed by keyhole surgery, in which case you might still be able to conceive naturally.

I might begin researching "fallopian tube blockage" and PID so that you are armed and ready with loads of information and questions before seeing your doctor.

Best of luck and don't lose hope! Even when there was the possibility that mine might be blocked, my consultant was extremely confident that I would concieve -- be it naturally or assisted.

I hope this helps a bit....xxx

Thanks teletubby, my main concern about ivf is that i wont get it for free and i just cant afford to pay for it so if thats what they suggest it may be time to call it quits, which will break my heart. So hoping for good news off the consultant. I had a strep b infection about a year ago, would this have caused an issue with my tubes?

I'm not sure about group B strep but I would definitely ask the consultant.

Regarding IVF, the major impediments would be being over 39 and already having children with your partner/husband. Otherwise, you may very well be eligible.

But there is no point in thinking about this too much as there is still hope that you will be able to conceive naturally if the blockages can be cleared.

I'm so sorry that you have to wait so long for your appnt.....it will be agonising but I would really take the time to do research and write down every question you may want to ask. I wouldn't walk out of that meeting without a solid plan of action.

xxxx

Finally had my appointment through, 6th Jan but it's not with my consultant though, i have been asked to go to the EPAU unit, anyone know what this is and why they would be sending me there and not to the consultant??

Hi Piggin....hope you are well. Just saw this post. Hmm.....being sent to the EPAU sounds a little strange. Could it be possible that they made a mistake? Did you call them to ask?

pigginteacher · 01/12/2009 23:10

Hi teletubby, i ried to ring today but as usual the lines were busy and im limited to when i can ring them. A lady on another post that some hospitals run a fertility clinic in the afternoon in th EPAU unit, so maybe thats why, im still going to try and ring them to make sure it isn't a mistake, i will be so cross if it is
