Can my GP prescribe clomid?

Been trying to get pregnant for a looooooong time. Started charting nearly 2 years ago and using a fertility monitor since january. Thing is the monitor says I have only ovulated once, and it was in june.

So, can my GP prescribe clomid, or am I going to be referred to a specialist who will try and stick needles in me?

(massive phobia of needles, hence not bringing it up with dr before... )

I usually have a few doses of Diazepam and then someone has to take me (can't walk without support) but dr doesn't like to prescribe this if a) there is any chance at all I could be pregnant b) there is an option not to have the blood test.

So for example, she prescribed it when they thought I had appendicitis because I would not let them near me to take the blood, but she wouldn't like to give it for something that is optional - eg. clomid.

Plus she seems to think that I would require blood tests whilst taking the clomid to check hormone levels. Is that true?

If it was just one or two blood tests and then the pills, I could probably manage that (obviously need to get childcare for DS - but shouldn't be a problem as one offs). If it required tests every month to check hormone levels it doesn't seem very fair on DS to have a stressed out mother and be shipped off to a friends on a regular basis.

Plus they probably wouldn't let me have diazepam because hopefully there is more chance of being pregnant.

It's all so complicated, isn't it?

you would, you would have to have a 21 day test to check if the Clomid is making you Ovulate. You might have to have this every month until they get a 'yes' and even then they might want to continue testing you each month.

I just don't understand why I can't waive that part. Surely if I'm pregnant I must have ovulated, if I'm not... well I'm no worse off than I am now. What's wrong with that?

Clomid helps you to ovulate, that's what it is for. They start you on 50mg and then if it doesn't help you ovulate they up it to 100mg, 150mg and so on. Unfortunately they have to do the blood tests to find out if the clomid is working for you. I think they would have to do one before they prescribe it too.

Also you can only take clomid for a few months (6 in most cases) without a break so it's better to be sure that it is really working than to just let people have it and not know if you see what I mean.
