How can I get my doctor to get me tested?

I went to my doctor after 5months of trying and was told to come back in a year. It's been 8 months now. And all my firends and family are ... well to be blunt.... nagging us to get tested.
I'm 36, (37in October) and had a very, and my god I mean VERY large endometriotic lump removed when I was 31. How do I go about getting what I want from my doctor next visit. I dont want to be fobbed off again, as i'm really worried about my age and fertility?

Ask for the referral , as it will probably take a few months to get the appointment
With your Hx of endometriosis you have a pre-existing potential issue
You should be referred now
Go and see a different Dr
I'd refer you

Thanks loads for that. It's silly really, I never feel like I have the right to ask for a different doctor.

You should definitely ask for a referral now, I had a large amount of endometriosis removed (after a year TTC) and then managed to conceive the following month. Endometriosis can definitely cause infertility, have a look at this link from my consultants website

You should push your doctor for a referral now, and if not some fertility consultants will accept a self referral if you are willing to pay to go privately. I was able to get BUPA to pay for my treatment to have my endometriosis removed so if you have private health insurance maybe you might be able to also (just don't mention it's fertility related) Good Luck

I was a year younger than you, had been trying for 6 months and had a history of endometriosis and was referred for fertlity treatment straight away. I think if you look at the NICE guidelines then you will find that with your history you should have been referred by now. I would look at a copy and go armed with them to the GP and if that doesn't work then change your GP.
good luck

see here Nice Guidelines page 9
And pasted for you

1.2.2.3 People who have not conceived after 1 year of regular
unprotected sexual intercourse should be offered further
clinical investigation including semen analysis and/or
assessment of ovulation.

1.2.2.4 Where there is a history of predisposing factors (such
as amenorrhoea, oligomenorrhoea, pelvic inflammatory
disease or undescended testes), or where a woman is
aged 35 years or over, earlier investigation should
be offered.

The second section is you, so refer sooner than 1 year
