german measles while ttc

bit of a weird question:

just had a message from someone thats going on a hen weekend I'm on next week saying that she's got german measles that she'll be ok to go as she's getting better but thought she'd check whether any of us are pregnant......

I'm on CD 17 today and am ovulating so am hoping I will be pg (fingers crossed!! but who knows) but don't really know what precautions I should take... I googled it and it can be pretty serious if caught in first 16 weeks of pg but no idea if I should be worried or not....

Trying to put it into perspective I'm thinking "well I intend on drinking despite the possibility of being pg....." - do I think of the risks along those line or more seriously???

Anyone got any ideas/thoughts/experience of this that may help.....

Thank you!!
xx

Did you have rubella jab at school? You should be covered if so though call your doctor to check.

In your place, I would have a blood test to check rubella immunity.

Strongly agreeing with CoteDAzur even if you were definitely immunised. I got the jab at school. First, second, third pregnancies, tests show still immune. Fourth pregnancy (I'm due in October) - blood test shows I'm not immune any more.

Firstly, rubella (german measles) is actually rare. More than likely it is not that at all, but instead is just some non specific virus. Even if it is Rubella, after a week it will no longer be infectious anyway. It is only infectious for 4 days after the rash appears

Secondly, chances are you are immune anyway - either through a rubella vaccine at school or if you were born after 1982, via MMR.

Thirdly, if you are on CD17 you might well not even have concived and even if you have the embryo won't have even implanted yet and it will be far too early to have any effect, even by next weekend.

So highly unlikely to be an issue in this situation.

But may be worth asking to get your immunity checked for the future.
