Is my FSH level is too high to conceive?

Can anyone help me please?

I got the results of my day 3 test today and the results are
FSH - 10.7
LH - 7.5

I can't get to see my GP until next week, so had a look at the internet which said my FSH level could be indicative of "diminishing egg reserve". The test results say the normal levels are 3.5-13 though.

Very worried now

Who says I'm sceptical? I didn't say I thought only trad medicine works at all!

Now you know you CAN conceive it can only be onwards and upwards for you

"The problem you have here though is that IME a high FSH dx is not going to get you much joy with traditional medicine."

Yup. Everything I have said seemed to say that conventional medicine just says "oh dear high FSH? bummer." whereas plenty of people seem to have lowered their levels through acupuncture. Haven't had mine retested yet, but at least I have managed to get a period, so it's all going in the right direction!

Cosmo I did read that people can have misleading high readings of FSH after having been on the pill. Maybe your high (actually it doesn't seem that high) reading was "false" so to speak!

Anyway, High/borderline FSH seems to be NO bar to pregnancy as the stories on this thread bears out. Yipee!

Naw annie I do believe in acupuncture, alternative medicine, traditional medicine, the whole shebang! I even studied naturopathy for a while!

Having said that I think there are a lot of quacks, both in conventional and trad medicine willing to exploit people.

On the other hand there's the "placebo effect" i.e. by believing something works, it will...weird...

Just not convinced that lowering FSH makes any difference that's all, but don't want to discourage anyone because hey if its working for you stick with it gal!

Will keep the clomid thing in mind in case the quacks at the GP try to put me on it...

really donttrythiathome? I've not heard that. I had thought mine was likely to be just a general hormone imbalance, because I've had high prolactin in the past as well.

anniemac have you heard of www.lhfhealthplan.co.uk ? It's just in Yorkshire (I think) but there may be similar in other parts of the country. You pay £15 a month and claim back the cost of various things - I am getting half the cost back of my acupuncture, so worthwhile.

donttrythisathome · 30/04/2009 17:01

For example here but also saw it other places.

I take anything found on the web with a pinch of salt but still...

Might sign up to one of those health plans myself in case i do decide to try the acupuncture. Want to look into it a bit more first.

Good luck everyone, and if anyone else out there has positive stories please bring them our way!

Hi there

I have just been reading the messages about FSH. We had been trying to have a baby for 4 years unsuccessfully. We decided to pay for 1 go of IVF. I had my FSH tested and was told it was 24, which is high as it should be between 6 and 7 (for Me)I also recieved a lovely letter from our IVF provider telling us that our IVF would probably fail as my eggs were few and of poor quality. I researches how to reduce FSH and I decided to have acupuncture as I thought I should give most things one go. I had 2 sessions of acupunture and was given some herbal medicine to promote a 'warm womb' and aid 'conception'. Those sessions were at the end of october and I did a pregnancy test on December 1 and I was 4 weeks pregnant. Whether it was a placebo or acupunture really does work I'm not sure. I think I possibly relaxed as I believed it would never happen and so was not stressed about things. I really don't know how I got pregnant but I did. I hope this helps other women in my situation to know that things can happen even if your given bad news. You only need one egg to get pregnant!

congratulations ohfinony!

Nancy66 · 13/05/2009 10:42

It is a little bit elevated but the daft thing about FSH levels is that you could do the test again next month and get a reading of 5.5

It's by no means disastrous - so chill and get shagging!

Just to add fuel to the fire - and haven't read all the psots either...

I'm 40, my FSH was 6.5 in Nov, 5.6 in feb.

HAve just had IVF but got no eggs at all and very poor response and basically been told no good eggs left so as far as I can see FSH levels are really a load of bollocks. At least not always a good indicator.

Thanks Lottie

My AFC is great too - had 15 or so both time I had it done - once on the cycle I had the IVF.

A different protocol might give better results but was on short protocol and had been taking DHEA/not drinking/no coffee etc and the fact that not only did I get few follies they were also empty suggests things aren't great.

We're going to donor, don;t have the funds to keep having loads of different cycles with different protocols etc

But thought I'd add that FSH is not that reliable so don't know why clinics use it as an indicator.

Hope I haven't given anyone the fear....
