Hey girls!
ok so this is my problem I would be really grateful if u could help me out or throw in your thoughts

well i havent had a period since around 5th of feb 09. It was a normal period. Problem is I havent had a period since then.

I know this website is typically for women who are expecting (congrats btw) or those who r trying ( best wishes) the thing is I'm not trying to concieve at the moment.

I came of the pill in december and i had 2 normal periods since and then nothing .... I'm going out of my mind.
I've taken numerous pregnancy tests ranging from clearblue, tescos, family planning clinic ones and they r all negative. the latter tests have also been with first morning urine. My family planning clinic are totally fobbing me of it just seems to me like they dont want to know. they're taking the hpt test results for gospel, i wish i could also but its weird for my period to just not come. I've also been unelievably bloated ....or fat i cant tell coz it hasn't gone away in a few weeks. this past week i have also been constipated. regarding all the other pregnancy symptoms u could really convince yourself u've got them all.

In jan and Feb i was incredibly stressed. I would say i'm just as stressed now coz i don't know what is going on. I havent been able to get an appointment with my doctor because the appointments work on a first come first serve basis for the day and i work full time plus the family planning clinic doctor told me not to bother just start taking birth control again. I don't want to do this incase i am pregnant.

what are your thoughts? bearing in mind i would be 10 or 11 weeks pregnant. Has anyone else been through the same thing?

it quite normal for it to take a good few months for your periods to get back to a regular pattern after coming off the pill. continue to use contraception if you don't want to conceive.

hey blinks, yea i was thinking it was probably that its just weird because when i went away travelling in the summer i stopped my pill because my boyfriend wasn;t travelling with me and my periods were fine when i came back in spet i started using it again then as said once again when i stopped it (because it really wasn;t agreeing with me) i had 2 normal periods then nothing

i do use contraception .. condoms however like everything they're not 100%

i'm sure it'll settle down soon. try not to worry too much about it...

Actually the pill leaves the system very quickly after taking the last tablet.

I would have to go by the negative pg tests you've had and say you are not expecting. However, I would have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like (these tests can be done according to calendar days as there is no period at present).

Stress can also play a part in delaying a period - but so can hormonal imbalances. Problems with the thyroid and or a condition called polycystic ovaries can cause periods to become absent as well in the manner you describe. This is why I am suggesting a blood test to check your hormone levels.

"I would have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like (these tests can be done according to calendar days as there is no period at present)."

Atllathemeerkat, thanks for your input. Wot does according to calender days mean? whys that important? ..... I'm sorry for my ignorance :S lol when i go to my docs i want to be able to stand my ground I'm sick of being fobbed off this is really affecting my day to day life, I'm sure all you ladies out there in limbo are feelin the exact same way. This board is great seems very supportive and also gives peace of mind.

I've heard of pcos... i hope its not that.

Hormone imbalance .. wot causes that? is it permanent? what are the symtoms/effects?

Hi weewooser,

As you have not had a cycle recently the blood tests can be done instead according to calendar days. In your case they can do a blood test on the 3rd and 21st of the month. Both of these are standard blood tests and these will measure three different hormone levels. The test done on the 3rd will measure your LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) levels and the 21st day one would measure the level of progesterone.

You should also have your thyroid levels checked too by the GP. The GP can arrange blood tests.

Hormonal imbalances can cause periods to go absent but it can be treated. This needs to be further looked into in any event.

I wish you well, any other questions just ask.

Attila
