I've posted this in the miscarriage and pregnancy topics too, but hopefully someone here may have a good news story for me...

I had my blood test results from my GP today. She didn't really understand them and has referred me to the Consultant.

My thyroid and Anti-cardiolipin results were normal.
My Anti-Nuclear Antibodies result was 1:80 speckled. This is what I'm being referred for.

I understand that this is an auto-immune problem and can be a cause of recurrent miscarriage.

Does anyone here know anything about this, and been treated successfully?

Many thanks.

I had mine tested, it could be Hughes Syndrome aka "sticky blood" It is normally treated with aspirin.

From the Hughes Syndrome website

Hughes Syndrome is the most common treatable cause of recurrent miscarriage: depending on which study you quote, the figure is up to 1 in 5. Furthermore, late pregnancy loss, fortunately an unusual problem in pregnancy, is very strongly associated with Hughes Syndrome as is pre-eclampsia, placental abruption and intra-uterine growth restriction.

For the sake of a simple blood test, patients with miscarriage or late pregnancy loss can be tested for Hughes Syndrome. Treatment of these patients has proved one of the true successes of modern medicine, the successful pregnancy rate rising from a previous low of fewer than 20% to figures now in the region of 75-80% success rate. Treatment is with low-dose aspirin and/or heparin.

I was tested for other reasons, I am way past child bearing age! HTH

Thanks for replying alibubbles.

I thought that Anti-Cardio Lipin was the test for Hughes Syndrome? My results on that were ok.

Guess I'll need to wait to speak to the consultant.
