Hi there

After some reassurance...90% sure I am having a 3rd miscarriage and was wondering if any of you had any similar experiences?

Hoping that the tests will now come and whatever is causing these will be found.

Not sure what tests will be done so any advice would be very comforting

Sorry to read your post But I still have my fingers crossed for you for the 10%....

Otherwise;

Ask your GP to refer you to a Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic? A Consultant saw me at the local hospital, took bloods to test for genetic issues (Dh and me) and did all sorts of other tests and examinations on me. Nothing hideous.

Best of luck.

Thanks PheasantPlucker

Did you find the tests helpful?

They all came back negative, so there was nothing officially/medically 'wrong with us' so in a way it was a useful diagnosis.

I knew a lady (a while back) who had these tests, and made the decision to try IVF when she got the results. So the results helped her make a definite decision regarding conception, which was useful. She had a dd. 4 years later she has had another dd, conceived naturally, who was rather a shock! But very treasured.

Sorry to hear about your situation. After 3 mcs you can ask to be referred to the mc clinic for tests.

We had a series of blood tests for things like blood clotting disorders, incompatible blood antibodies and such. All very quick and simple. Our results came back normal and we've had some more blood taken to do chromosone testing to find out whether there is an incompatability there. As pleasant said, we found the tests helpful in order to 'rule out' problems which might need some help.

In the meantime, I'm pg again and keeping everything crossed as, for most women who have recurrent mcs, it is just a matter of rotten luck and eventually it will work.

Good luck and hope that you're being well taken care of.

Hi. I don't have experience myself but a friend's wife had 3 miscarriages in a row then went on to have a healthy pregnancy while she was waiting for the clinic appointment to come through. I really hope things work out for you.

Maybebaby76 · 11/04/2009 14:22

These stories really help me stay positive, thanks strawberrycornetto

By the way, your name has now made me fancy an ice cream, I'm off to hunt one down! He he!

Oooh, I fancy one too. Better send dh down the shops before the morning sickness goblin does his vicious worst again!

teeheelaydee · 11/04/2009 20:05

So sorry to hear your news.

We were referred to the hospital after 3 miscarriages and were testing for blood antibodies and GP tested for genetic issues. What I found difficult was the realisation that we may not get answers and would at some point would have to plunge into the unknown. However the results coming back OK made it easier to take that step.

Am now 40 weeks pg and have just had to accept that last 3 were rotten luck. I still find that hard to get my head around but there is hope.

Good Luck

So sorry about your sad news - to give you some hope I know of two people who have had 3 consecutive misscarraiges and have since gone on to have two healthy kids. Keep going and it will happen.... Best of luck.

I would recommend reading the book "Miscarriage - what every woman should know" by Professor Lesley Reagan. It goes into a lot of detail about what tests can be done and explains what some of the possible reasons for mc could be. I think some of it is a bit out of date now, especially on the hormonal reasons and treatments available, but it still gives a really good overview. Prof Reagan seems to be one of the leading experts on mc in the country.

The book also has a very helpful section on pregnancy success rates after mc. Even after 3 mc, you are more likely to have a successful outcome in your next pregnancy than not.

Thank you thank you for all of your kind messages of support!

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again right!
