Volume - 2.5ml
Count - 23 million
Motility - 34% motile, 33% progressive, 10% non-progressive, 23% non-motile
Morphology - 10% normal, 90% abnormal

DH just had the med centre post the results out to him as he's on leave so hasn't seen the doc to discuss, so any info would be appreciated.

I havent got a clue but bumping for you

ForcesSweetheart we found our DR didn't really understand the restuls so had to get the FC to explain properly, but going by the results my DH had the volume is avg, count, good, motiiity looks very good compared to my DH who was just above avg with 56% progessive, morph avg, hope this helps

GorgonsGin · 09/04/2009 12:02

if you google the WHO guidelines, they give you a bit of guidance. On that basis

Volume - 2.5ml = ok maybe a bit low, but I know that can be performance anxiety on the day

Count - 23 million = good. 20m per ml of sperm is threshold for normal

Motility - 34% motile, 33% progressive, 10% non-progressive, 23% non-motile = not bad, but would have to get expert guidance

Morphology - 10% normal, 90% abnormal = not so good.

My DH's results were pretty bad. Count of 2m (so approx 10% of what it should be) and only 2ml volume, although morphology and motility were relatively good.

ForcesSweetheart · 09/04/2009 12:25

Yeh I thought the morphology didn't look too hot. Is this a major thing? I mean are we looking at zero chance of conception with that morphology or just slightly reduced?

I definitely don't think it's zero chance.

You'll need to speak to your doctor for a better view, but I'd read up yourself on the subject. I found our GP wasn't too knowledgable about sperm test results and consulted the WHO guidelines too (while we were in his room)

GorgonsGin · 09/04/2009 12:34

oh, and they should definitely repeat the test again (maybe twice more) to get a better picture. Sperm test results can vary widely depending on what your DH has been doing/eating etc. All the usual things about keeping testicles cool, avoiding alcohol apply to pimproving counts

Sadly my DH's results didn't change appreciably, so we are doing the ICSI form of IVF. He gave up booze completely for three months to see if it made a difference to him. He was gutted when it didn't make a jot of difference (probably because he had sacrificed the drinking time rather than that it didn't make any difference )

Thanks GorgonsGin. It took us only 2 cycles to conceive DD (once we found out I was a late ovulater and stopped timing it completely wrong - wasted a year doing that)but this time we're on cycle 7 - hence the sperm test.

Thanks everyone, and congrats BElgianBun!

I'm due on tomorrow and not hopeful for this cycle as like most cycles over the last 7 months we only got to BD once anywhere near ovulation as DH works away all week. From the end of May though he'll be home every night again so hopefully we'll have better chances then.
