We have a DS, 9m, and have been ttc for 7 months. After several months of peeing on sticks to get timing right I got the Taking Charge of Your Fertility book as recommended by someone on here. I started taking temp and using a saliva tester and have self diagnosed that I'm not ovulating. GP was very nice and has referred me to sub-fertility consultant and arranged for me to have blood tests done. We have an appointment in a few weeks with the consultant. Friends have told me I'm worrying about nothing and that my body will sort itself out - is this possible? Is there anyone with a similar experience out there? Do you think I'll be given chlomid or have I got that wrong and chlomid isn't for my condition? Just feel the need for a few opinions as friends making me feel like I'm being ridiculous for even going to GP.

Katierocket - I'm on my third day of clomid and also have been waiting for the side-effects. You read so much about how awful it can be and I feel absolutely fine - so fine that I am convincing myself it's not working and I need a higher dose!

not sure really - I didn't notice anything wrong with my friend - but she told me about being treated and getting pregnant - all I knew was she wanted a second child - we hadn't talked about it being a problem.

This is what a google search gives:

The symptoms of hypothyroidism relate to a general "slowing down" of the body's functions. They include:

  • feeling tired and sleeping excessively
  • easily feeling the cold
  • dry and thickened skin
  • coarse, thinning hair and eyebrows and brittle nails
  • sore muscles, slow movements and weakness
  • depression and problems with memory and concentration
  • weight gain
  • constipation
  • fertility problems and increased risk of miscarriage
  • heavy, irregular or prolonged menstrual periods

katierocket - have just posted on the clomid thread for you!
I hope you feel a bit more positive now something's being done. It can sometimes help of someone or something else is taking the responsibility for your fertility, IYKWIM.

As far as thyroid function goes, I pestered my consultant about this when we started fertility treament and he told me this had been checked in our 1st round of blood tests, so hopefully this isn't as issue for you, if these tests are standard up and down the country.

thanks again Moomin

roobedo - fingers crossed heh, keep posting and we can go through it together. I fully expect to wake up tomorrow 20 pounds heavier, with full beard and a headache!

Moomin · 03/08/2005 18:00

um, sounds super-sexy! your dp won't be able to resist...
Lol imagining you as a mad hormonal Brian Blessed.

Hi Katierocket

Don't give up hope even if your dh's sperm sample isn't great. My dh's was completely rubbish!!!! I mean really, truly and extraodinarily awful - they asked him if he'd missed the pot after one test . He took chinese herbs, had acupuncture and took zinc, vitamin C and fish oils. We were due to have ICSI and were told there really wasn't any chance of conceiving naturally BUT WE DID IT!

I know that everyone tells you to forget about it, try not to stress, go away on holiday, move house etc. etc. etc. but I just couldn't. I just wish you all the best and hope that you get positive results soon.

Roobedoo · 03/08/2005 18:52

Katierocket, will def keep posting. Snapped at my dh a couple of times when he got home - not something I usually do (ever, not just when he gets home!) My dh blamed Clomid, I think I was just grumpy.

Hopefully we won't need to discuss hair removal options!

LOL at Brian Blessed, god what an awful thought. I am a bit concerned about not being monitored on CLomid but consultant seemed to know what he was talking about and I think GPs prescribe it? Think will still phone the clinic again though.
Thanks LIttlefish - stories like that are exactly what I want to hear!
Roobedo - I'm a bit er, tempamental anyway so I think DP is a bit scared he's going to come home to a screaming banshee.

Roobedoo · 04/08/2005 10:06

Well, it seems to have kicked in now. DH has had to take morning off as doesn't trust me to be rational (although he says I just need a break so has taken DS out)! Feeling VERY tense - major pmt is the only way I can describe it. Found myself asking my 12m old if he was deliberately trying to wind me up - at this point I realised I wasn't feeling normal. Doesn't help that DS is going through an odd phase of waking during the night and screaming like a banshee for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Also - am convinced I have gained pounds overnight. Jeans looking v unflattering, although could just be due to my negative state of mind!

oh dear roobedo, hang in there. I definitely feel more bloated but it is hard to know what is just in your head isn't it.

katierocket · 04/08/2005 11:22

if you don't mind me asking, why are you are on Clomid if you have a child that's only 12 months old? (obviously you're more than entitled to just couldn't work out how long you must have been TTC) feel free to tell me to mind my own busienss!

Roobedoo · 04/08/2005 13:55

Well, we wanted another one really close to first so started ttc when DS was three months. I got preg really quickly with DS and had also been preg before (m/c 8w) so after 6 months or so and a couple of months of charting went to see GP who happily referred us. My charting was indicating that I wasn't ovulating btw. Saw consultant who then diagnosed pcos, hence clomid.

ah, ok, well here's hoping.

spangles · 04/08/2005 16:45

Hello Roobedoo
I had secondary infertility and was refered to consultant. DHs sperm had low motility and we couldnt afford IVF so we were put on clomid and bingo.. it worked on cycle 2. I took 50mg on cycle days 2-6 and had no side effects. I knew when I was going to ovulate because I felt like my ovaries were going to explode. Our DS arrived and whilst BFeeding him I got pg normally after having only 4 periods! hang on in there... In my eyes clomid is a miracle drug

katierocket · 10/08/2005 16:38

any other uplifting positive stories welcome!

bubble99 · 10/08/2005 20:56

Hi all. It took us 11 months to conceive last time. I have three DS' 7, 5 and 6 months. My last was a twin pg but one of my twin boys died during a botched labour. Long story.

We're now TTC again. I'm an old girl now (39) and resigned to the fact that it may take a while, again. Hang in there. Get treatment asap if needed and good luck!

katierocket · 11/08/2005 08:32

oh bubble, I know your story , what is happening about the hospital?
