I'm still reeling from the revelation that pigs have clitorises (or should that be clitori?? )

No, it's not encouraging viewing so far is it - still, gotta focus on the fact that the world's population is about a zillion or something, so some must get through

tattycoram · 23/03/2009 21:37

It's just bloody bizarre. I've switched it off, it reminded me of a car adverts

shirleyc · 23/03/2009 21:41

lol not good for me seeing as i was hoping for a bfp this month now ive seen all those dead sperm, and knowing about all this acid that can kill them well hmm what to think i just dont know! dh is snoring his head of beside not interested in it in the slightest!

It's amazing conception happens at all, seeing all that, but I thought it was a good docmentary.

Notintheknow · 24/03/2009 07:38

The pig thing was indeed a bit of a shock. And that guy climbing on top of her tweaking her teats. What a job.

But yes, all quite demoralising really.

shirleyc · 24/03/2009 07:59

I'll never look a pig farmer in the eye again without laughing my head of

Reminded me of Rebecca Loos assisiting the lig on that programme couple years ago! LOL

I thought it made me appreciate my kids all the more knowing how much of a miracle conception through to actual birth everything is..the odds are stacked against them aren't they blardy ell

But i suppose at least you know the one that does get to the egg was the best

I watched one on killer sperm once, ie the normal person that a woman has sex with, his sperm have 'fighter sperm' that fight off another mans sperms.. so i developed a theory about people in the world who are rotten to the core..one of these sperms must have got to the egg, even though they are not supposed to
Intelligent sucker that i am

shirleyc · 24/03/2009 08:13

lol i missed that one!

But overall very interesting and certainly makes you think about that final sperm being so strong and healthy!

Dh sat there with an incredibly smug expression as I got a BFP at the weekend.

The temptation to remind him that 'I decided to let them in otherwise they'd have had no chance' was too much .

MrsHappy · 24/03/2009 09:32

This documentary was hysterical.
DH is very proud of having knocked me up so many times in the last year, and having watched the programme I am not surprised!

Some parts seemed more for dramatic effect than accurate though... The idea that the sperm all sit there waiting for the CM to start is of course, bollocks. And I don't think the fallopian tube entrances really are all that tiny, since on an HSG they look a milimeter or two.

(Congratulations funtimewincies )

ABetaDad · 24/03/2009 09:34

All those people running about in white suits pretending to be sperm reminded me a lot of that Woody Allen film:

"All You Wanted to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask)"

I just couldn't stop thinking Burt Reynolds was going to appear at some point.

shirleyc · 24/03/2009 09:36

lol at least ur husbands watched it, mine snored all the way through

Grats on your BFP funtimes!! Mrshappy your dh should be proud heres to hoping my dh sperm can make there way! Although knowing him they'd prob get lost!

Loved the idea that sperm mill about on a boat eating all sorts of great food!

funtimewincies · 24/03/2009 09:49

Thanks!

I found some of it to be a very Lord of the Rings with sort of 'celestial orcs' sprinting across a dramatic landscape. Lots of over-excited references to the 'death toll' and 'assasins'. I couldn't keep a straight face .

ABetaDad · 24/03/2009 09:53

I missed the first bit - did they fire any of the 'sperm people' out of a huge gun like 'human cannon balls'?

That would have been fun to watch.

MrsHappy · 24/03/2009 09:54

Unfortunately not. They sent them screaming down a water slide...

Mumcentreplus · 24/03/2009 09:57

lol..well my mum always said to me I was special coz I won the race!

shirleyc · 24/03/2009 10:04

and according to the documentary what a race it is! climbing mountains, fighting and defeating the enemy lol!

I said to DP in an argument once

10 million sperms and YOU had to be the one that made it

He reminded me of that last night

HeadFairy · 24/03/2009 12:17

dh and I watched this last night, he kept saying why on earth are we bothering ttc, it'll never happen Told him it happened last time, ds was definitely the product of the best sperm

I have a friend who works at a fertility clinic and she said they're very careful about selecting the sperm to fertilise the egg, making it do a similar kind of assault course so they get the strongest and fastest ones.

ABetaDad · 24/03/2009 14:10

notintheknow/shirleyc - perhaps I should not admit this but I have actually done the 'pig' thing.

Not the sitting/laying on the back part but stroking their back all the other bits. Sows are a lot like women. They let out a sort of contented grunt when you do it.

Pig farmers do it to test if the animal is close to heat.

Iklboo · 24/03/2009 14:13

It was the 'lap dancers earn more when ovulating than when on their period' but that got me

Yes - because they can't be arsed gyrating around shoving their bits in sweaty drunk blokes faces when they're on thank you

And, oh yes, you just had to go and research THAT one didn't you professor

funtimewincies · 24/03/2009 19:48

What an interesting life you've led ABetaDad! And I thought that we had a some strange rural arrangements in my neck of the woods .

shirleyc · 24/03/2009 20:57

OOh abetadad lol thats quite some job! Loved the bit when you said they 'grunt' lol

Fair enough though someones gotta do it
