I have very irregular af today being cd93 i got a +opk sat sun mon however on the sun i had ov pains so as from the monday i took that as 1dpo....

Today is 6dpo and last night whilst in bed i had niggles in the side of my stomach, they didnt hurt but i knew they were their.

Anyway around 10pm i decided to do another opk to be on the safe side and i got another +, i really thought i was in my 2ww ive waited for it for so long.

Long shot but i was wondering if their is any chance that the lh surge can be detected when implantation takes place??
If not what could this be?

I just feel lke crying ive waited so long to be in the 2ww and now my body is doing this to me

I have done a hpt fr but its a bfn any help or advice ladies

Thank you Louise xxx

There is no LH surge that could be detected when an embryo implants.

IMO the most likely cause is that you have had more than one LH surge this cycle. It is not uncommon for the body to gear up to ovulate and then not do so (this can happen even in women who have comparatively regular cycles, because of stress, illness etc). OPKs detect the LH surge but this is not always or necessarily followed by ovulation, so they can be an indicator that ovulation is about to happen but don't guarantee that it then does.

Your cycle is very long which makes me wonder whether you have had any tests for PCOS? Women who have PCOS often experience numerous surges of LH through their cycle and so for them OPKs can be less helpful.

If I were you I would go to see the GP. Such irregular cycles are not likely to help you to conceive and a referal to the gynae/some blood tests may be in order.

Sorry not to be more positive, but I really think that you should see a doctor and get to the bottom of your irregular cycles.

In the meantime, don't rely on OPKs to tell you when you ovulate. Instead I would aim to have sex every 2-3 days through your cycle to cover as many bases as you can.

thank you.... i thought it was a long shot just trying to work my body out i actually went to my gp 2 weeks ago and she sent for for bloods which all came bk normal. alot of ladies in my family also have irregular af and pcos has been ruled out with them also...

????? LOL

should i just bd incase i have ov late or should i still class my cycle as 6dpo?

I think you should keep having sex because, hey, you never know. I reckon it is unlikely you would have an LH surge if you had already ovulated.

Is the GP going to refer you to a specialist for more help?

Any cycle over 35 days in length (if consistenly over that length as well) is likely to be anovulatory. I don't think for one minute you are six days post ov at this late stage.

OPK's are not worth using at all when periods are irregular in nature. They can give false readings. Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances (in this regard PCOS is a common culprit) or thyroid problems. Both should be looked into by a gynae.

I think the results of your bloodwork should be looked at far more closely. My guess is that they've missed something and there is something amiss here. What hormone levels were tested?.

You should be referred to a gynae after 12 months of ttc without success - making you wait for another year is unreasonable and delays treatment. Find out what the guidelines are according to NICE or your PCT. If your GP practice is unhelpful I'd register with another.
