Just wondered how you found it - I have appt there in May.

Been seen for 2 separate sets of investigations, for a 6 month period in 2004 and again in 2008.

They are quite good at getting lots of tests organised quickly, so you feel things are being done, but they didn't seem terribly interested - have PCOS, so were a bit dismissive. First time, gave me Metformin and 3 cycles of Clomid. No success, eventually conceived dd naturally 18 months later. Second time, less bothered as already had dd so did tests then told me I would have to pay privately for IVF (recommended Holly House) as I have 1 child. Holly House £5k a go, so not happening.

Good luck!!

Thanks Catrin - do you know name of the doctor/consultant you saw?

I have pcos and metformin too but want to have all the checks before I have clomid - so want to have blood tests and dye test etc first. Don't think we could afford provate ivf either.

The consultant is Mr Kalshaker, but didn't see him, saw one of his team.

They didn't do an HCG first time, as they thought it was fairly obvious what the issues were. Second time they did as I had mangaed to conceive naturally so wanted to rule out tube problems. They also tested dh's sperm - turns out he has no motility so that was why they said IVF.

Thanks - that is good. I just have bad memories of trips there for colposcopy as a teenager but think that consultant (Mr Vinekar) has left now.

I am worried they will just say the pcos is the problem and then not look for other problems so I think I need to go forearmed with lots of knowledge and questions about what i want.

I went to Whipps Cross, they were quite good at getting tests organised, and Mr Kalshaker put me on Clomid for 6 months.

Unfortunately, they don't do scanning for people on Clomid, which is the medical recommendation, so you don't know if it works, or if you are overstimming. The is apparently the policy of Waltham Forest PCT.

I was eventually referred for IVF at Barts, although the locum standing in for Mr K really tried to discourage me from choosing Barts over the Homerton for treatment, but without giving a proper reason. I won.

Good luck!
