Stupid question about Clomid & progesterone

Good morning,

I maybe about to ask a stupid question here... !

This is my first month on Clomid (in the 2ww now) and I had a 21 day blood test on Friday. Result came back yesterday at 51, which the midwife remarked at excellent.

Last time I had one of those blood tests, last year it was marked as 31.

So, now my stupid question - would me taking Clomid increase the progesterone level??

Thanks!

Hi Amelied, I have had 6 months on clomid and have now started on FSH and HCG injections as well as still taking clomid.

Clomid is desgined to trick your body into thinking your levels are low which then enables you to produce more and increasing your levels.

This will help you to ovulate, i only got tested once for this and had a result of 64.

Hope that helps!?!?!?

Hi sgibbo

Thank you - that has helped alot.

Have you been trying long?

We have been trying for 3.5 years but only been on F/Treatment for last 1.5 year. Ours is unexplained fertility which makes it really frusting, it would be easier to have a reason.

How about you?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 17/03/2009 17:40

Hi sgibbo

What tests have been done on both of you to date?. I ask this as sometimes couples are given an "unexplained infertility" diagnosis because they have not been adequately investigated. Some tests can and do get missed out. Also any test result over 6 months old should be discounted.

Do you feel you have both been adequately investigated?.

"Unexplained infertility" is infact no diagnosis at all. It meams that they have
failed to date to find out what is wrong.

Normally the max amount of time on clomid is six months after which time other treatments should instead be tried. Also you should be monitored often whilst on it.

Morning Sgibbo

I have been trying to conceive first child for over 3.5 years now and have had 3 miscarriages.

They have perscribed Clomid - due to my elderly age (40) more as an aid to falling preganant more quickly.

Im in the 2ww after my first round of it.

I know what you mean about having a reason -we cant get to the bottom of why I can't hold on to the pregnancy after 8 weeks.

Good luck to you...

Hi Attilathemeerkat,

I have had numerous blood tests for PCOs, ovatulation, I've had ultrasounds and have had a HSG, my husband has had his test also.

before starting our new treatment I have been retested for PCOs

Amelied, good luck with this round i hope everything works out for you

Hi Sgibbo

Has there been any mention of you having a laparoscopy ? Only our fertility was 'unexplained' after scans, sperm analysis, HSG, clomid, etc it turns out I had endometriosis, with no symptons other than being infertile. I had it lasered away & fell pregnant the next month.

Good luck with the clomid

sgibbo · 18/03/2009 20:43

Hi Helenlouisey

Actually that has never been mentioned, I am due to phone the fertility nurse tomorrow and think i will ask her about it and whether it would be possible to check for it.

When did they give you a laparoscopy? how far through the treatment process?

helenlouisey · 18/03/2009 21:18

The laparoscopy was the last thing to do once all other tests had been done, as this involves a general anaesthetic. The first tests we had done were initial sperm analysis (followed by 2 further ones) and my blood tests at beginning of cycle and then on day 21, these all came back fine, so next I had scans at various points in my cycle to check ovaries, and also thickness of womb etc, this uncovered nothing, so next I had an HSG, this was all fine and my tubes were clear. Next I was put on progesterone for 2 months as I was getting some spotting mid cycle, this didn't work so I then was put on clomid for 3 months, this also didn't work so the laparoscopy was the final thing to check for things like endometriosis, to look at my womb properly and ovaries etc. The laparoscopy also showed that one of my ovaries was PCOS, which hadn't shown up on any of my scans or blood tests previously. There is quite a lot of info on my consultants website about infertility and also having a laparoscopy and endometriosis Have a look here and here

sgibbo · 20/03/2009 13:31

Helenlouisey, I have an appointment with my fertility nurse on Thursday so I think i'm going to ask her about the possibilities of having a laparoscopy. We're currently in our 2nd cycle of Clomid, FSH and HCG injections and am hoping that they work...

helenlouisey · 20/03/2009 17:59

Good luck, I hope it all goes well
