My niece and her partner are trying for their 4th pg, This would be her 3rd living child. The average for her to get pg has been 4 mths at longest, 2 at quickest.

She's been actively trying for 6 mths now, directly following having an implant for 6 mths.

Her dilema is, she's been offered a place at uni for her to train to be a childrens nurse, therefore she has 2 more mths in order to get pg so that baby is not very young when she goes to uni. If she doesn't then she'll have to postpone till couple years later as she deosn't want to leave a sml baby all day every day. Her youngest is 16mths now.

Both she and si are taking prenatal vits, but what else can they do. Is there anything natural they could try? They are having sex every other day.

Thanks all

Have they tried OPKs and/or temping?

liahgen · 10/03/2009 18:13

yeah she's used opk's i think but not temping. I think she's getting pos opk's although not that srongly

Since she had the implant removed she's found it hard to lose weight, and got incredibly spotty, periods are anything from 26 days to 40 odd the longest,

Do you think she could have developed pcos or is that something you already have if that makes sense

Been to docs but not interested till they've tried for ea year, she's 24

From what I know I think PCOS is unlikely unless she was already symptomatic.

It is much more likely that the implant is taking time to fully get itself out of her system even though the actual implant has been removed IYKWIM

Re OPKs, it's worth making sure that she's using them between approx. 2pm and 6pm each day. That is when the surge is most significant.

She could also get a fertility thermometer and chart pack from Boots for about £20. If she goes for temping, she can join the Fertility Friend website which is v supportive.

Chesty cough medicine - sorry if TMI but for some people it can help - it increases the amount of fertile cervical fluid. Look for one that contains just guaifenesin. Take from about a week before usual ovulation time - 3 doses a day.

Grapefruit juice can also do a similar thing I am told.

I would also agree with the fertility thermometer thing but since your niece is only wanting to ttc for a couple more months it might not be the best thing (because she will need to do a few months of temping before she can get much info from it to predict cycles). OPKs might be useful though - you get a positive a day or 2 before you ovulate so it gives you time to ttc.
