HSG - what sorts of things can I expect them to find?

I am booked in for an HSG next week and am not scared about how painful it may or not be as I have read a lot of the other threads and am pretty sure I will be relaxed so don't need to hear that much about other people's experience while having it - but I am interested to know what sorts of things the exam is likely to discover.

I have a fear that they will either find nothing or something so bad that there is nothing they can do.

Can anyone who has had an HSG tell me what their diagnosis was and what they then had to have done to fix it, or not if they discovered nothing untoward.

thank you in advance. x

I read (was told as well by the doc) that they can cause irreparable damage to your tubes and possibly perforate your womb :S That's obviously if the guy doing it majorly cocks up! I guess also, I had a coil fitted about 5 yrs ago ( i don't have kids obviously) and omg..the pain was incredible...i nearly passed out. I guess I'm scared it's going to be the same thing given it has to be passed through your cervix :S xx

I think those kinds of complications are really rare. TBH, there are risks with any medical procedure, even having blood taken. As for the pain, I know some people have found it painful but I felt something similar to a smear test and then only knew they had passed the liquid through when I saw the images on the screen. I didn't feel a thing.
