Hi,

needed some info about sperm analysis tests. have been TTC for a while. I have just gone through day21 and ultrasound tests with the NHS which were (thankfully !)normal. I want to get DH tested but doctor wants me to try for 6 months more before doing anything further.

what's the cheapest way of getting this test done ? i saw something about home tests but am not sure whether these are genuine. I live in east london so would be grateful if somebody can point out a clinic where this is cheaper than the harley street clinics

lol,

Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon hopefully, but I am a bit surprised that your doctor (I assume a GP?) would only investigate you when poor sperm plays a part in 45% of cases of infertility.

Has your DH been to his GP and asked for a test?

Failing that, a test at a clinic is around £100 so it might be worth doing, just to get it done.

You could ring the Pathlogy Lab at your local hospital and see if they will do it privately for you, many of them do. Newham Hospital still has an assisted conception unit (I think), otherwise try the Royal London or Homerton.
If this fails its worth seeing if one of the many private laboratories around Harley Street who do the pathology work for the private clinics will do it for you direct.
Home tests are useless and as you probably know, sending them away is pointless as spermies die very quickly outside of the body.
I agree with mrshappy, its a bit unfair your GP said no a test on the NHS. In most areas the first line tests are day 21 prog and sperm analysis, before any ultrasounds etc. Could you try another partner in the practice who might be a bit more sympathetic ?
Good luck, I hope you get somewhere

There is a walk in clinic in Hammersmith, but your Dr will need to refer you. I'd go back and ask Dr again, just to give you peace of mind.
