period pain question thread

Katierocket, I used to get cramps about 5 days before my period would start, so yes, I would say that its pretty normal and nothing to worry about. Not sure that will stop you worrying. Unfortunately, I think I was one of the lucky ones and it took me four months to conceive, I spent three very emotional and frustrated months TTC and then I said to my partner one day "Right, thats it, I am not "trying" any more, if it happens, it happens". Believe it or not, not sure whether it took the psychology pressure off actually TTC, but I fell pg the very next month and was very shocked! Stick with it though. Personal question here: do you use the ovulation test kits? I found these very useful as I found that I ovulated at different times every month.

katierocket · 13/04/2005 14:16

I use a persona expectant and have used ov kits in the past. Interesting that you found out you were oving at different times of the month.
Thanks for the reply - feeling really fed up with it all, can't believe it's been nearly a year.

But unfortunately these things can take time. My friend is pg and one week behind me, she was trying to conceive for 2 years (nothing physically wrong with either of them) and was very particular, stopped drinking, smoking and basically became a health freak, and believe it or not, she and her husband just had one of those mad weekends where they both drank to much and hey presto!! Don't mind me asking, how old are you? I am 30 and was on the pill for 14 years, so when I stopped taking it last year, thought it would take me years to get it out of my system, which can also be a factor. Think thats what messed around with my ovulation dates, had always been 28 day cycle, came off the pill and one month was 28, the next 39, the next 30, thats why I found the ov tests so good, only used them one month and that was that!!! Now I'm waddling for Britain! Have you spoken to your GP about your concerns?

katierocket · 13/04/2005 14:27

I'm 33. I went to the GP and she checked my hormone levels to see if I was oving which she said I was but haven't been back. She can refer me for more tests but I just wish it would happen without all that. I did the not drinking thing for a while but felt like i was on some kind of penance so now just try to cut down. I really thought this month might be it - lots of signs of Oving, me and DP had gone away for drunken night in hotel, blah, blah. but looks like it's not.

Well, you never know. I still got all the symptoms of getting my period, which was why I was so shocked when I found out I was actually pg. I was so convinced I wasn't pregnant and only did the test as I was nearly ten days late and did the test to rule out of being pg, as I was also 12 days late the previous month too!! When are you due, can you not try one of those First Response tests? Can't you try them three or four days before you're due?

katierocket · 13/04/2005 14:39

I guess so expectant but after 11 months it's pretty textbook period like symptoms and I did test last month on day of period (as I was one day late) but obviously it was negative
I just keep thinking "it's not fair", why us? But I guess everyone thinks like that!

I know exactly what you mean, it also seems like everywhere you look all you can see is pregnant women?? You'll get there Katie and when you do it will all seem so worthwhile, wish I could give you more advice than that

katierocket · 13/04/2005 16:33

thanks so much expectant, does mean a lot actually to hear someone say that!

Katie,

I get the same pains as you from about a week to 9 days before AF due. They started when I came off teh pill last July (we've been ttc #3 since then with no luck, but I'm 40).

I keep dithering about going to the GP as I haven't been at all yet to have any hormone levels checked. I did check the symptoms online and came up with congestive dysmenhorrea (sp?) which is a recognised form of period pain which starts long before your period is due. Sometimes there's no cause but it can be caused by endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease.

Mine is bad ebough when it starts for me to take pain killers for a couple of days, it then goes away for a few days then comes back usually 24 hrs before AF and lasts right through AF sometimes.

I'll go to the docs if you will.......

Take care,

BL

P.S. We've also 'stopped' ttc (in theory, but it's almost impossible) so i'm not on MN much now. I've also applied for a new job to shake my mind onto something else as I found I was getting so despondent about it all.......

katierocket · 14/04/2005 19:25

thanks BL - going to make GPs appointment tomorrow, can't harm can it. It is very depressing though isn't it. I wish I could just 'forget' about it but it's pretty impossible.

KR,

How did you get on at the docs? I finally plucked up the courage and have been just now.

He said the pain is most likely prostglandins (sp?) causing my uterus to cramp, which is good news as it's a sign I'm ovulating. I'm to have a blood test next week on cd21 to check my hormone levels.

I feel so much better for asking him about it.

Hope you're OK,

BL

BellaLasagne · 25/04/2005 13:23

P.S. I didn't get the job so am back to obsessing madly about ttc but trying not to at the same time!

It helped that I met a friend at the W/E who I'd lost touch with - she's just had No.3 after trying for over a year and is 41 so there's hope for us all I think

BellaLasagne · 26/04/2005 16:33

I'm worried now I've done some research on Prostoglandins. They're the hormones that are released when labour starts and causes the uterus to cramp - therefore they're used for induction of labour.

So if I'm releasing them at around cd21, does that mean if I've conceived my body will reject whatever's there?

????

BellaLasagne · 29/04/2005 14:27

bump

katierocket · 19/05/2005 14:25

thanks bella - just seen this

OP posts:

...and my cd21 hormone levels were fine, which proved that my GP was right to say that the prostaglandin pain is a good sign that ovulation has happened..

BellaLasagne · 16/01/2006 11:05

I'm still worried about this and have now booked to see my GP again this week.

I've got a dull ache on my left hand side, mid way between my tummy button and hip, which gets crampy from ovulation onwards then just gets worse the whole time I have AF, right through until it's finished. Lovely AF has been getting worse too, about 7 days duration with heavy loss on days 3 and 4. Oh joy

Anyone had anything similar? I'm now worried that it could be all sorts of yukky things....

BellaLasagne · 18/01/2006 13:25

If anyone's interested......

GP says may be ovarian cysts and has referred me for a scan to check. (She couldn't feel anything, though, so there's nothing obvious there.) I'm going to have to wait up to 3 months though!

Does anyone know if I can pay to have this privately quicker?
