this is my 1st month of charting with ff i have been charting since start of my cycle i normally have a 28/29 cycle and am on cd 18 i have now had 3 consecutive risen temps so thought this would mean ov has taken place?basically what i want to know is,does ff detect ov straight away or does it wait until end of cycle to show when ov took place as i know its temp patterns it looks for rather than just temp changes here and there!

i'm confused!!

It usually detects it on the 3rd or 4th risen temp. It maybe that you have a few other temps above the "coverline" the horizontal line that FF draws along with the vertical line for the day of ovulation so you get ovulation "crosshairs" so it isnt detecting it yet.

Also bewarned sometimes it can detect ovulation then a few days later change its mind and decide ov was a few days later based on other signs! That was annoying!

ok i am now on cd 20 (ucl28/29) and ov still has been detected on my chart even tho,i had 2 positive opk's in a row and what i felt like ov cramps, does this mean i haven't ov'd!!this charting is seriously not good for me!!

any pro's on ff out there? x

are you taking your temps at consistent times and before you get out of bed? Just thought as it will have a hard time detecting your ov if you aren't meticulous about your temps.

scarlotti · 18/02/2009 16:18

Have you also entered your opk's on there too? That will make ff more accurate. There is a place for you to enter them under tests.

lam81 · 18/02/2009 22:22

yeah i have entered as much as i can,its actually annoying me now as i know it has worked for so many girls on here,i'm trying not to believe it as i am now on cd21 due af week tomo and i have no lines anywhere on my chart,i am wondering if its because i changed thermometers half way thru,i was using a digital one taking temps from my ear, then read i should be taking it orally,so changed on about 14or15 to a digital one and began temping orally, kind of hoping this is why it haasn't worked properly, but thought it would probably still pick ovulation from opks +ves, ewcm, cerix position as i have faithfully recorded all this everyday

any thoughts anyone?

I find it seems to default to temperature despite what other signs say. You can change the settings to use your OPK as the main indicator (tends to say you ov'd the day after last positive opk if you do that). I had monitored cycles for 10 months and it often got my ov a day or two out, so I wouldn't rely on it too much, just use it as a guide along with everything else. Good luck.

lam81 · 18/02/2009 23:08

issy thank you, thats what i wanted to hear, ttc is stressful enough now i'm not only worried i wont conceive i'm worried i'm even ovulating, ignorance is bliss btw, wish i could have a more laid back approach to all this carry on!!not a chance

Lam - FF will default to temperature as the main sign. This makes sense because the other signs indicate that your body is gearing up for ovulation but only your temperature shift (when taken with the other signs) confirms that it has happened.

For example, I sometimes get a few "patches" of EWCM in my cycle and it is possible to have positive OPKs and then not ovulate.

If I were you I would chalk this cycle up to experience. Having changed thermometers part way through charting has probably not been too reliable for you. In any event, the main advantage of charting lies in doing it over a few months and coming to recognise the signs your body gives out around ovulation.

good advice, mrshappy thats what i'l do, thanks xl
