What happens when you have a Mirena coil removed?? Please help me understand my cycles

I've always had long cycles, between 32 and 36 days. I had a Mirena coil removed last December and since then have been having shorter cycles. The first one was 30 days and the second one 25 days.

Why is this? Could I not be ovulating? Am I ovulating earlier?

I'm 35 and ttc #2 and absolutely paranoid that it won't happen!...

I had my Mirena coil removed last month and am still in my first cycle so cannot really tell you what it has done to them in terms of length etc. My specialist did tell me it could be a while before my cycles settled down though. I had it in for 4 1/2 years without any periods at all. I did OPKs this first month and got a surge at around day 14 so it looks like I did ovulate. OPKs could be a way to reassure yourself that you are ovulating (very difficult to know when to test though if cycle so unpredictable).

Thanks for your reply Amanda. I think I might do that. I will start charting with temps as well.
It's incredible how impatient we get! I feel like I've been trying for 1 year!

I had my mirena out in October and my GP said that cycles would return to normal straight away.
Ive had two cycles of 31 days and a cycle of 26 days last month.
Im 33 and ttc no. 3

IMHO charting temps and getting obsessed with OPK is the wrong way to go. How on earth charting a temp can be accurate is beyond me!
Still I think the best way to get pg is to forget about it and dont get stressed about the whole ovulation thing although its so easy to do on here which I did in December and it drove me crazy

i had my mirena removed in Feb 07 to ttc number 1. It messed my cycles up (but opposite to yours. Started having 60+ day cycles) and took until Dec 07 to concieve.
My cycles never regulated in that time. Only now I have given birth have they become regular again.

Needless to say had I certainly won't be having one again until I have finished having my family.

Thanks for your replies.

I also was not told that it could take this long for the cycles to normalise after the Mirena coil. I thought it was a question of removing and then back to normal...

I really didn't want to start obsessing with ovulation kits and temps, but I'm convinced it's the only way it will happen this time...
I work full time and spend over 3 hours commuting everyday. I'm always exhausted and tbh bd-ing is the least of my priorities. If we don't really make an effort when the chances are high I don't think I'll ever get pregnant!....

don't envy your 3 hour commute tugamommy - my DH has similar going in and out of London (when trains are running and not cancelled due to adverse weather). he was full of beans last week as he wasn't even attempting the commute - nice to have all that energy and enthusiastic bd-ing but shame we can't time the snow with ovulation!!!
