Morning ladies,
Sorry, TMI to follow, but need some advice.
I had some milky discharge - what I thought was EWCM five days ago. I only seemed to get it once and nothing again until yesterday when I noticed stretchy, transparent discharge a couple of times when I went to the loo.
Firstly, do you think both times this was EWCM and secondly, is it normal to get it on and off like this?
Looking back over previous cycles, I only noticed what looked like EWCM once. Is this normal?

That sound snormal to me. EWCM is usually clear, so I would say what you are experiencing now is EWCM. You can have EWCM over five days or so. You are at your most fertile at the end of those five days.

Gateau · 26/01/2009 08:51

Thanks belgo.
Is it normal to have it just a couple of times in one day though; or even just once in one day?

yes that's normal. Some women have more then others, it also depends on your age.

Gateau · 26/01/2009 08:59

Meant to add, I always thought you were most fertile while having EWCM, not at the end of it???!

No I'm fairly sure it's at the end of EWCM.

Lemontart · 26/01/2009 09:05

I don?t think you notice it unless you are deliberately looking out for it IFKWIM. Before we were trying to get pregnant and never heard of the famous EWCM, I told DH that I must be infertile as I didn?t get that! I fell pregnant first cycle trying and noticed EWCM for the "very first time" LOL.
I find I get milky discharge before and after my "fertility window", changing to stretchy clear during - usually lasting about 3 or 4 days. Even though we are not trying for another baby (youngest 5yrs) I still notice it every month and it definitely varies subtley from month to month. Without going too far in the TMI, I would say that you notice it more with different toilet habits too (I am sorry - but you did ask) For example, if you are running to the loo a lot and checking, the constant wipe will keep the noticeable amount down. If you have not been for a while and even (God, I cannot believe I am typing this) perhaps had a bowel movement, the muscle movement down there can move things on a little and you will notice more EWCM.. (half tempted to delete that bit, but if it helps to share experiences, then I will cover my blushes and leave it in - sorry again if TMI)

I find it handy to monitor as my periods are long and irregular so it helps me predict the length of cycle. Perhaps I am a bit too "body function aware" LOL

I agree with you in every respect Lemonytart

I'd never heard of EWCM before July, and have become an expert at spotting it now !

Gateau - I wonder if the milky discharge you saw could be described as creamy ? Post AF, CM is supposed to go from dry to sticky, then creamy, then watery (fertile), then EWCM. I don't think all women necessarily notice all types, but that is the established order At first, I used to mistake creamy / lotiony CM for EWCM - easily done, till you get EWCM 4 or 5 days later and can see the difference

VeryAnnieMary · 28/01/2009 12:14

Argh - another confused person. Feel dreadful today and very much like AF about to erupt (took last pill 31 Dec) but this morning had (SORRY!) a big glut of CM. Am really confused and very much out of touch with own body. Think I need to take a leaf out of Lemontart's book and be more body-function aware.

So if I had EWCM on Sun and Mon and managed to ttc on both days will that have covered it or was it too early and you should keep going after it disappears????

Joolsiam · 28/01/2009 12:30

I think that EWCM reaches a peak and then you ovulate, so once the amount of EWCM you are detecting starts to reduce, the likelihood is that the egg is already released. It isn't an exact science though, or we'd all be happily on the a/n boards

I think the general idea is that you BD as soon as you see watery or EWCM and keep going till it starts to tail off, or keep going till it disappears if you want to cover all eventualities

MrsPuddleduck · 28/01/2009 13:04

Only had it for two days and managed to BD on both days so can probably do no more. Will just have to wait!

Joolsiam · 28/01/2009 13:16

Good luck !!

I'm gearing up for a busy few days having seen creamy CM yesterday and watery today. That means EWCM Thurs/Fri/Sat and OV on Sunday I think/hope

First normal cycle after a November MC, so am keeping everything crossed (except my legs of course !!)

MrsPuddleduck · 28/01/2009 13:57

Hope it works out for you Jools

If you want to join a chatty thread I am on Bonkers Anonymous - there are only about 4 of us ttc at the moment but everyone is REALLY friendly and you can usually find someone to talk to

Joolsiam · 28/01/2009 14:57

Thanks for the invite Willmouse

I am already on one TTC thread, but am a serial internet chatter so I guess another wouldn't hurt - will drop in and say hi after work when I can allow myself more than a fleeting visit
