My cycle has changed ....

Hi ... I am trying to get pregnant but am struggling as my cycle has changed recently and I can't seem to get the timing right.
I used to have a regular 28 day cycle ... never failed .... then got pg with ds without trying and thought it was all going to be plain sailing. Pre pregnancy my periods always lasted about 4 days, fairly heavy with lots of pain. Since DS things changed ... I stayed on 28 days but periods got longer ... 6 or 7 days with very little pain but heavier ... had no problem getting pg a second time. However, since my miscarriage in November it has all gone mad ... my cycle has been anything between 14 to 27 days ... very heavy periods to begin with for the first 4 days then on off bleeding and spotting for up to the 11th day. As the cycle is all wrong and the period is lasting so long I think I am missing the time we should be having sex ...
Is there a reason for this cycle being all haywire?
As much as my DH would love to 'do it' every day of the month ... I just can't seem to manage that and so am more keen to have an 'intensive' few days when the time is right but how can that work if I am still having a period?
Confused and desperate to be pg so that I can put the mc behind me .....
Any thoughts?

It's me again ... my message fell off the bottom of the list so I thought I would come back to see if anyone had any ideas ... should I go to the doctor or should we just keep going?

Hi Ghosty, sorry no specific experience but just to say my cycles went a bit haywire after my m/c (first pregnancy) and it took about 4-5 months to settle down (m/c was at end of Oct, and I conceived ds in the middle of March). Since ds was born they have been all over the place. Before I got pregnant, they were so regular I could set my watch by them! Have you tried ovulation predictor kits? I gather they can give you an indication that ovulation is imminent. Maybe someone else here has tried them? Also, using Persona is supposed to be a great way of getting pregnant

Sorry I can't really give you any advice, but at least your message will be back at the top of the list now

Ghosty, another thought...have you tried posting your query on the Babycentre `Trying after miscarriage' board? . Babycentre website is here (hope no one minds me suggesting this).

Ghosty - I'm sure that your periods are indicative of nothing other than the fact that you've had a miscarriage - but given that you're ttc, in your position I would go and see my doctor just in case he/she can shed any light on possibly causes. I know how difficult it can be ttc with a very irregular cycle as I used to have one. I got mine sorted out with homeopathy - ( and now am on the ivf/icsi trail anyhow so my cycle is fairly irrelevent) but it should be possible still to pin point ovulation via charting ( temperature taking and checking the state of your vaginal mucus...) Have you considered doing this? Taking the temperature first thing before doing ANYTHING is a bit of a hassle as, on waking, you just have to lie absolutely still for 1 min rather then leaping out to have a pee or rush to dd/ds or whatever - but it does work as a system - as does the mucus watching! More details on tcoyf.com - which apparently has changed its name recently to ovusoft.com ( I think the latter is correct - I suspect the former will still get you there) due to my circumstances I haven't been there recently!
Good luck

Since coming off the pill 8 months ago, I had two 34 day cycles and then my cycles went haywire (34-57 days). Went to the doctor who said could give medication for regulating cycles but have to stop trying for a few months. Decided against that option at the time and now finally have had a 34 day cycle again so hoping all back to normal now and can try at the right time. Maybe it will be a case of waiting and hopefully your cycles will regulate too. Good luck.

Ghosty, I picked up a leaflet advertising the ClearPlan' ovulation prediction test at our doctor's surgery today. It says you need to test for a few days each cycle. The test kit only contains 5 test strips, so with your irregular cyles it could be difficult to get the timing right. You can also get fertility monitors' from the same company which are supposed to work if your cycle is between 21 and 42 days. It all looks like a good way to part you from your cash though!

I've been pondering about your message and am inclined to agree with bayleaf, I think it's maybe worth a trip to your doctor just to see if (s)he has any suggestions and hopefully to put your mind at rest.

Lots of sympathy, I know what you mean about wanting to put the m/c behind you.

IF you want to use OPKs then they're much cheaper at

I had some success with acupuncture. Just find yourself one who has experience with women's problems. This was in NZ by the way.
